Deleting old hubs

   I am thinking about deleting some of my old pieces of poetry that HP doesn't like very much--and posting them on my blog. Do I still get credit for the views that these hubs generated if I pull them??

      HP doesn’t like some of mine either.  I can’t believe they would score some of yours unfavorably…you are one of the best poets on the hub, Audrey.  I also have heard that if you delete the hub, the number of views will be subtracted from your total views.  :-(

      I deleted all my hubs earlier this year. My accolades remain the same including 'hubs read over 10K. My present hub ever views are 1,126 since beginning over. So, from that perspective there is not any changes with the big picture overall view of things. The views will be eliminated at the stats page reflecting only hubs showing published or unpublished. Unpublished hubs still show stats at the stats page of course. They are still an active hub only not viewable to readers.

      You may already be doing this, and if so, you can ignore this comment. But I just wanted to mention that Hubbers who write a lot of poetry and creative writing should make sure they are categorizing them in the Poetry or Creative Writing Topics. Poems that are not categorized correctly are subjected to our Informative Writing Scale, instead of our Creative Writing Scale, which can cause the scores to be much lower than they should be.

            If you open the Hub you can see the topic/category structure at the top.
            For your Hub titled "Winds Blow Me Into Being" the category is:
            Books, Literature, and Writing → Poems and Poetry → Lyrical Poetry
            
            You can edit a Hub and change the categorization.
            It shows at the top of the screen labeled TOPICS when you are editing.

         Thank you Christy. I did not there was difference. I will definitely keep that in mind. I think I have pondered where to place a poem before. Like I wrote a poem about Hot Rods and wondered if to place it in automotive or creative writing. One wonders. Now, the question is which is more important - internet contrast interest categorizing. No matter SEO comes to play for the greatest exposure.

      I have few poetry that are generating traffic after doing what Cardisa have advise me but I have deleted also some of my poetry hubs that do not earn views every day. I put it on my personal blog which quite work better. Hubpages is more on knowledge based content if you wanted to earn more here.
      
      I also find out that pinging and making updates and revision to your  hubs help. The sharing stuff as well

      I agree, Audrey. If HP drops the rating on a hub and if we should want to delete such hubs, we should retain the views credit.  I have deleted most of my old poems and put them on my blog. Now I am wondering if that made a difference in the commenter levels of readers who commented on those hubs I deleted.

      The views listed here are for currently published Hubs, so deleting a published Hub with views will result in that number decreasing.

   Audrey,
   I am glad now that I dropped by. I never knew this about HP deleting your views on the hubs we delete.
   Lately I went back and deleted a lot of my early hubs years ago, but they didn't have that many views.
   Now I will know thanks to you.

   I, too have a few hubs that I would like to delete, but now I'm not so sure it's a good idea.

      It was a good idea for me. I was so sick of the very first hubs I did. Some were without summaries, etc. I was glad to delete them.

      Oops, I deleted some of my older haiku poetry, but did not think about losing the views. Now, I wished I had not, as they were really some of my favorite. I printed them off, so I could update and republish. If you just unpublished the hubs instead of deleting then the views stay I believe.  Maybe they would not ever become duplicate if you just unpublished and never republished on HP in lieu of deleting them.  I have some I have just unpublished but keep them and do not delete them, and they have tons of views. Some of the hubs I have unpublished have a higher score than many of the others, but I just was tired of seeing them.

   If you unpublished you still keep your views. Along as you allow enough time for it to no longer appear in search engines, you will have no problem republishing your poems on your own blog. Also it will be easy to republish if you change your mind later.

         I don't think it is a lot different than deleting, even then it could be still index by Google after deleting. From my experience it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Also are any of your poems unfeatured? If so it might not take any time because they are already suppose to be deindexed from the search engine.
         
         One way to check is cut and paste a portion of your hub with quotation marks and if the hub is still listed it will show up in a search. This is also a good way to check for duplicate content and you might want to try this before unpublishing or deleting.
         
         I believe there is also a way that you can contact Google and ask them to deindex, but not 100% sure of the process. Maybe someone more knowledgeable and tech savvy can weigh in on that.

   I'm curious, how does it negatively influence a hubber if their view counts are dropped after deleting hubs? That won't effect any money you're making, I don't believe.

      It doesn't. It it is only an issue if you care about your personal stats and want the accolade for it.

         It does not matter if you lose views when you delete a hub because you already have earned whatever income they brought prior to deletion.

   I wonder myself.  If you have credit for 100,000 and you delete 5 hubs totaling 5,000, then your aggregate would be minus 5,000.  Does this make sense?
