There are two possible strategies:
1)Write on Everything you know about
2)Pick a Subject and just write on it
I chose the first one because I can search and learn about many things, and will keep up with that.
Just want to know from others what they are doing and what's there suggestion.
I would write the first few articles on issues/subjects that you are very versed in or those that you have a working knowledge of. This helps establish an audience and readers/members know they can go to your work and learn something about that particular subject. But passion makes up for a lot and if you have an idea (i.e. something political) that you want to write about and it might appeal to a broad audience, do it. For me, quality above quantity is my philosophy. Take your time and hubbers will find you. Good luck and enjoy the site.
I do both. I like reading, so I read everything. I like culture, psychology, and fiction, so I write most about these topics.
I am afraid that there is no one subject that will hold my attention forever.
The hard part is coming up with a topic that Google will be enthusiastic about me writing about.
I would stick with the first one. HubPages is not a niche website (meaning its not about just one topic).
For now I have mostly written articles related to games, but I want to scale it up with relationship, movies, health, tech, web and a lot more.
Just write something and put it in the right category.
That is all I can say.
Pick a subject and write many hubs would be a good strategy if you are looking for better search engine visibility. Keywords in your hubs (web pages) in your subdomain (yourname.hubpages.com) will be common which will allow search engines to associate your hubpages account with focused keywords.
On the other hand, if you write about multiple topics it would attract a wider audience with in HP community but less organic search traffic.
Based on my Hub writing experience here over the last seven years, I disagree with the above statement. I have always written on multiple topics, and my HubPages traffic has always been a fraction of my readers compared to the search engines.
If you are a good writer who understands writing for the web, or is willing to put in the time to learn, you'll get organic search traffic without limiting yourself to one niche.

I've read a lot about the importance of doing keyword research, but then you also get the impression that to really do that research properly can take a long time unless you get lucky early on or really know what you are doing. So I wonder, with some people pumping out huge amounts of hubs, are...

I am thinking about building some backlinks to my Hub[ages subdomain, but am not sure where and how should I start. What do you suggest? What's your backlining strategy? Is it really impossible to get so organic traffic without backlinks? If not, how difficult is it?

I often see forum posts about how the site is 'dying', or asking why people would continue writing here after they've earned success on their own websites. So I thought I'd start a thread about WHY people still write here. To start, here are some of my reasons (I haven't written much in the past...

I've been on here for a few years, and I guess I never really understood the point of these scores. They don't seem to provide any real value to the user and I can't convince myself that they add value because they fluctuate so much. What's the point? Am I supposed to use these scores to tell me...

This was a nice experiment, but I've ultimately concluded that this site blows. The two competing interests are making money and writing quality articles. Mind you, I've written a handful of stellar hubs, yet I haven't a penny to show for it. Sure, I have about 100 or so impressions on AdSense, but...

I have been on HubPages only for two months. I did not think that "Asking & Answering Questions" was a complicated matter. But I have come across a question that if you ask a question and then answer it with your own hub, it is "faking it". My understanding was...
