Hi, I read the recent recommendation that the best hub layout for mobile devices is to have al your capsules set to full width. Problem is that for text and advert capsules one is unable to set a background color unless you float right. I use the Amazon ads, and when in full width with the white background they tend not to look appealing and even confusing for the reader. Is there a way round this?
This is a great suggestion Colleen. Having different colors for our capsules and extra text would help differentiate them from the regular article.
No there isn't a way around it. I'm not changing my Hub layouts, instead I'm hoping that HubPages will eventually come up with a better solution for displaying our Hubs on a mobile. I have highlighted text capsules which would look like nonsense if they weren't highlighted, as they would disrupt the flow of the main text.
I changed a few of my hubs to all full width and noticed that the ads do not show up nearly as well on th em. In fact, the products look like midget versions of themselves.
How are we supposed to sell products if people can barely tell what they are?
I agree. Have you thought about getting a large version of the product image as well? You can paste your Amazon affiliate ID in the "source" URL. Might be worth a try. But it is annoying to have to start changing things, just when you seem to have cracked the art of making sales.
Marisa: How do you get a large version of the product?
The only way to do it is to go to Amazon, log in, find the product and download the large image. That can be hard to do sometimes, if the image is set to zoom when you click on it - play around and you can usually do it.
Then you can upload that image in a photo capsule. Put "Amazon.com" in the "name of source" box.
If you want to get even more clever, you can paste your Amazon affiliate link into the source URL box - but obviously the one you'll get on Amazon is for your own personal Amazon account, not the HubPages one. However it should work if you copy and paste your HubPages Amazon code into the link instead of your own.
What I do not like most about reading hubs via my mobile phone is that I cannot see any share buttons, when in the past I was able to at least share on tweeter, pinterest, but not on Facebook for some reason. Now, I cannot share to any other social sites, plus I have never been able to vote up, but I am able to vote awesome, etc. So strange. I am wondering if I have some of my mobile phone's settings wrong to where I am unable to see all that I need to see? So, if I do read a hub via my mobile phone, I vote appropriately, except for UP and have to wait until I arrive home to vote up and share anywhere? I do hope they are planning on making more improvements.
The BEST improvement that could be made is an app for HubPages. I use numerous apps for websites and they are terrific. You can view the sites without having to open a browser on your mobile device.
That is my opinion. The opinion of HP staff is that a mobile app would not enhance things and there are no plans to develop one.
There is an existing iOS app in the iTunes store that works on iPad and iPhones that was updated 2 years ago.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hubpage … 44783?mt=8
We have recently spent extensive time optimizing the mobile browser experience of the site to make the experience better for all readers, abstracted from the platform or device from which they access the site.
I personally use the site on an Android device and using "show desktop mode" in Chrome I can even edit Hubs.
Thanks for the information. I was hoping for an Android app, but I do remember a discussion some time back where there was not going to be such an app in the near future.
I will try Chrome the way that you suggest and see how that works out.
Newer version of Chrome for Android will allow you to make a shortcut to a site on your main phone screen too.

Thanks again Matthew! I just read the short article about the shortcut and then popped in and downloaded the Chrome Beta App. Went to HubPages, signed in and created the shortcut. Closed Chrome Beta, hit the shortcut and was right back on the site. (I had Chrome save log in info, so no sign in was needed.)
I do like the appearance of what I am seeing. No scrolling sideways appears to be necessary. The look is a tad different, but all info is there and easy to navigate.
I viewed the two hubs edited by Alison (HubPro) and two other hubs of mine that I have not tweaked with the full photos. On the latter, the images are displayed as full. I see no problems with the four hubs I have viewed.
I will play around with this Chome Beta Browser app and see how it goes.
Thanks again!

I am signed up as an afiliate with amazon.co.uk, but amazon capsules on hubpages always display prices in US dollars. Is this set by hubpages as the default?

I tried to add an amazon capsule to a hub the other day. Hm. No results. In fact, a search on "book" turned up no results. Very interesting. The hub tool must be broken.Later, I went to check on my Amazon earnings account and found that it had been closed. Just "closed". The...

For my first hub I asked my mom if it would be alright for me to do a review of her book. She agreed and I wrote one up. I intended to post a link from my hub to her book on amazon, however, upon further reading I read it is generally a good idea to have one or two hubs already posted before I try...

I found this site from Google that analyses your HP account and lets you know if it is mobile friendly. So far mine seems OK. Enter your profile's url address and click on "analyse"https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools … -friendly/

I am realizing that sometimes up to 2/3 of my audience is using smartphones to access my hubs, yet 90% of my Amazon sales are from desktop/laptop/tablet users. This makes me think that a lot of smartphone users are simply not scrolling to the right or perhaps they are not motivated to spend because...

Hi I just joined hubpage 5 days ago and I have some following questions:1. How do you promote your amazon and ebay affiliate products in your hubs? Do they just appear like google adsense? or you have to manually do the pasting of html in your hubs?(I think there is no html available in hubs)2. I...
