Perhaps long term experienced hubbers can help with this.  HP allows me to choose six hubs that will rotate at the top of my profile. Which should I choose? The oldest? the newest? The most popular based on number of views.? The least popular?  The ones declining? The ones with the up arrow? The high scorers? The low scorers?  Change every week by just rotating through the list?

My theory is not the newest because they already appear at the top of your hub list. And if hubs are grouped, only pick one from the group.

What strategy do you use? And does it even matter?

I can't choose he ones I like the best because I lie everyone the best.

It really doesn't matter, but I switch them up from time to time.  Sometimes it is by topic, by the ones that need some attention, the ones I recently edited, sometimes even alphabetical order.   Since it is mostly Hubbers who will be going to your profile page, you can think about highlighting the topics your followers like.

It really depends how you approach Hubbing.  If you're here in hopes of making a good income, then choose your lowest traffic Hubs - it just might help them avoid getting unFeatured.   Otherwise, it's not worth worrying about because very few of your paying audience will ever visit your profile to see it.

You make money on HubPages when 90% of your traffic is coming from Google and Bing and Yahoo directly to your Hubs, to find the answer to a question or solve a problem. Those readers want to read other Hubs on the same topic, not other Hubs by the same author - so they'll browse the related Hubs listed at the bottom of the Hub, they won't click on your byline to see what else you've written.  I know it's a little bruising to the ego when you find that out, but it's the way HubPages is set up - yes, you have your own account, but to the reader you're just another staff writer on a big magazine.

Now, if you're here to socialise with the community, then your slider is important because other Hubbers will visit to find out more about you.   So choose Hubs you think will interest your Hubber friends.

I change my six hubs on the slider at least once a week.  Sometimes I put up hubs I want to promote, sometimes I put up all similar hubs, and sometimes I mix them up. The newest hubs are at the top of the list right below the slider, so I do not put them up on the slider, for they are easy to spot. It is a personal choice as to which hubs you feature.

Catherine, you don't have to use all of the available spaces in the spotlight.  You can choose just two or three Hubs.

Since you have 25 Hubs, you might not want to include an extra link on the page to 1/4 of them.

HubPages has never asked me (in the going on four years) I have been here to choose six hubs for the spotlight.
      Thanks for the insight.

After reviewing everyone's tips, here is what I decided about what hubs to feature in the slide show on my profile. Don't put the newest hubs in because they appear at the top of the list and people will easily see them.  Put in 2 hubs that are in groups in because a click on one might lead someone to click on the others. (Use the most popular one of the group)  Put in 2 popular hubs because that is what people are interested in. Put in 2 good hubs with low readership to boost them. Change it every week or two. Keep records to see if hits go up for featured hubs.

Keeping records of traffic is  good idea, because that will tell you, eventually, whether the effort of constantly changing the spotlighted Hubs is worth it. I suspect you'll find it isn't, but maybe you can pop back and revive this thread to share your experience when you work it out!

I use it to display my six most recent Hubs, so whenever I publish a new one, it gets added to the rotation and the oldest one gets dropped.

Since I write hubs on gardening, I feature seasonal hubs no matter when I wrote them.  My hubs are all linked by topic so clicking on one of hubs in the slideshow will lead to hubs on the same topic.

I forgot all about this feature until I saw this post!  I fixed mine and then posted the link on FB.  I wonder how much traffic will increase?  We'll see!

Personally when I stumble onto someone's profile I always look through their featured Hubs to start.

So for me if someone that knew nothing about you landed on your Hub profile and you want to show them your best work, show what you are passionate about or show the hubs that just define you.

Good point.  I'll think about that.  Problem is, I think every hub is my best work. how could I love one of my children less than the others.

Hey Ken, I believe, in each hub writer's profile there is below, in the editing section where you can put in 6 hubs to rotate just under your profile. So, when someone views your profile, there are about 6 colored dots that rotates the hubs that you've set to be viewed. I think you can change them once a month; I'm not sure when but try it. You probably have not paid any attention to it. You're just too busy writing hilarious hubs (LOL).

This is my last bug to you Ken; go to your "In The Spotlight" Section of editing your profile and select 6 of your hubs to rotate just below your profile. You'll get even more readership.
