Can't Monetize

I believe I have to sign up for something called Google AdSense.   I have over 60 converted
    former Squidoo lenses.

'Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into AdSense at this time.  This is due to insufficient content.'
I seem to believe that I must first deploy Google AdSense or I won't be able to hook up with Amazon monetization.   Is that correct?

I also just got rejected for Google Adsense. I submitted my request and followed the instructions carefully (to have at least 10 hubs) and was rejected the next day. Talk about a smack down ha ha! Out of my 100 lenses hubs I have at least 20 that I believe are very strong content and well written. I am in the process of editing and improving or deleting the rest.

Google invited me to try again in the future and gave me a list of things to do. The problem is that most of my hubs already have these suggestions in them.

So is it that I have to wait till all my hubs are edited to try again? I'm curious to see what others think.

Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into AdSense at this time.

We did not approve your application for the reasons listed below.

Insufficient content: To be approved for AdSense and show relevant ads on your site, your pages need to have enough text on them for our specialists to review and for our crawler to be able to determine what your pages are about.

To resolve this issue, please work through the following suggestions:

Make sure that your pages have sufficient text - websites that contain mostly images, videos or Flash animations will not be approved.
Your content should contain complete sentences and paragraphs, not only headlines.
Ensure that your website is fully built and launched before you apply for AdSense - do not apply while your site’s still in a beta or “under construction” phase or only consists of a website template.
Place the ad code on a live page of your website. It does not have to be the main page, but test pages that are empty except for the AdSense ad code will not be approved.
Provide a clear navigation system for your visitors so that they can easily find all of the sections and pages of your website.
If you’d like to monetize YouTube videos, please apply for the YouTube monetization program. Note that blogs and websites that contain only videos will not be approved.
As soon as you’ve made the necessary changes, we’ll be happy to take another look at your application.

Hosted AdSense account obtained from YouTube no longer works on sites where hosted AdSense account is supported. If you need to add AdSense to sites other than YouTube, you'll have to upgrade your AdSense account to a fully approved or activated account. And you have the only option to do so, if you own a domain yourself. Whereas an hubber on hubpages has a sub-domain. Therefore this might be a challenging task for some.

Google crawled your subdomain on September 1 and it only had two Hubs:
        http://goo.gl/DKapVl

It looks like the rest of your Hubs were published just 40 hours ago.  Because you applied prematurely, you need to wait at least 30 days before you apply again.

Kim, this is something I worried about for Squidoo members.  I've noticed that to get approved, people seem to need two things:  body of work AND TIME.   I've seen Hubbers write 20 Hubs in a week, apply and get rejected.  Whereas if they apply again in six weeks' time, having not written another word, they get approved.

So my recommendation would be, get on with tweaking your lenses to make them suit HubPages, and apply again in a month or two.

Thank you so much for the insight on the problem and the encouragement. I will work on what I have and wait a few months and try again. I'm also overhauling my Google plus account.  I understand now I can't rush this! smile

You applied too soon.  Twenty-two hours ago you had no content on HubPages to be evaluated by AdSense.  If you applied during the last 22 hours, your account was not on HP long enough. Your account has not even been indexed by Google yet.  Every time you apply and get rejected for AdSense, you will need to wait 30 days before applying again.

There is no such defined time-frame to be allowed between applying for AdSense, according to the Top Contributors on Google Product Forums. But however, to avoid a spam effect one must seriously review all his or her contributions and allow for a definite gap in-between to apply again.

It sometimes depends upon which country you live in.

Many people have to wait until they have 20 - 30 articles which have been online for at least six months before AdSense will accept their application.  This is true for people who live in India, Pakistan, the Philippians, among others.

      Hi LotusLandry,

I need to ask your advice. I just got my separate Amazon affiliate account. Is there a way to put the links into my hubs? I can't seem to find that information.    Kim

I am also confused by trying to connect with Amazon.  I did pursue a Affiliate signup. The Hub  signup for Associates (several steps)  seems to suggest processing by google adsense may be needed to activate some relationship with Amazon.  I don't know how to link Hub with Amazon Affiliates as yet.

LotusLandry: You can use your personal Amazon Associates account without Adsense.

    Without Adsense you don't:
Get to join Ebay affiliate program
Earn from Hub pages program: HP Ads
Join the HP Amazon Program, but you can use your personal Amazon Associates ID.

Uzohukwu MIke:  We cannot put links like that in forums. It is considered to be spam.

LindaSmith1: It seems you do not understood what I meant. With one approval from google adsense, you can signin into hupages and go to "configure" to use the email account at which you have been approved of on hubpages. I personally got my approval from Adsense through youtube and the email account I used for it is what I used on Hubpages by going to My Account-earnings-configure (under the part "External Affiliate Settings"). I chose that I already had adsense account and I logged in with the email I used to setup the account on hubpages. Till today my adsense is active on hubpages and I am earning from hubpages program and also from Adsense.

        Hi Linda Smith,

Unfortunately if you click 'no' on whether you have adsense or not under external affiliate section it takes you right to an AdSense signup page, there's no way to add the separate Amazon affiliate that I can see. Kim

Kim, I don't think deleting your hubs is the best answer. They are extra ways of earning profits. You've only been on Hubpages 2 weeks ago. just check if improvements are needed and re-apply after 2 weeks. I'm sure you will get accepted by then.

I got accepted after 4 tries, ready to give up and I only had 15 hubs published. 10 were poems at that time.

You say you're sure she will be accepted when she reapplies.  Based on what?  I'm not trying to be contentious here but am honestly concerned.  Why will she be approved then?  Is there a magic number of applications?  What?  Please, be specific.

Most people need to have at least  20 Hubs before they apply.  If you apply before then, you'll probably be rejected and then will have to wait longer.

I am just as frustrated as all of the other Hubber here.  With 134 Hubs, I received this message from Google Adsense when I applied:

"Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into AdSense at this time.

We did not approve your application for the reasons listed below.

INSUFFICIENT CONTENT????  Really?  Is there ANY human being doing this review?

Tip:  switch the forums to Chronological, then you'll be able to follow it more easily.  This has been explained in a couple of other replies.

You've received the standard Adsense response which is rudely uninformative.  Of course your content is not insufficient, but (as others have already pointed out), Adsense also requires a track record.  For some reason, they are suspicious of brand new domains and won't approve them until they've been in existence for a month or two, regardless of how much content they have.

So the answer is to be patient, and reapply in 4 to 8 weeks, and you'll likely get approved.    I'm basing that advice on watching other people talking about their experience with Adsense over the years I've been here.

Uzochukwu Mikeposted 9 years agoin reply to this

The best way to work it out is through youtube. Adsense finds it difficult to monetize only hubs in the current time. With just three videos, you can get approval within the maximum of 4 hours. I am a living testimony and have done that for one other person that was in need of adsense.

  4. lisavollrath profile image93

One of the things AdSense wants in content is maturity. It's not enough to have a bunch of content in one place. It has to be a bunch of content that's been there a little while.

I had an existing AdSense account from my personal web sites, and attached my HubPages subdomain to that account. If you have any other web presence that is more mature than your new hubs, and has a bit of content on it, apply with that site's address. Once you get approved, you can attach any other web sites you have to your account, and there's rarely more than a 24 hour delay in getting ads up and running.

Probably a month, but two months would be safe.   What do I base that on?  I've been here over six years and I've seen people posting on the forums about their Adsense experience many times.

Not being Google, no, I can't define it. There's something in their approval process that doesn't like brand-spanking new domains or subdomains, or content that appears to be all new.

Google does not give a specific timeframe.  They make some sort of determination based on traffic and visitor engagement.  Average time is sort of wide, anywhere from one to three months for US resident applicants.  YMMV.

I might also just add, you should probably make sure to go through and "clean up" your transferred lenses and get them ALL into HubPages full compliance BEFORE applying for AdSense.

Just a hunch.  It's been a while since I had to apply for AdSense myself, I did it for my food blog several years ago so I can use that same ID now here as well. I'm just thinking, AdSense doesn't want to just see a lot of content that might have been ok for Squidoo but not for HubPages, is missing images and content that didn't make the transfer or just looks garbled up/too commercial.

So clean up those lenses (get rid of any Red Skull violations for sure), and THEN try to apply again.

I have been a Helium writer for a couple of years and am now looking for a new writing "home."

I have heard good things about the earnings potential of HubPages but from what I am reading in the community I won't be able to make any money from my articles at all until I am accepted by AdSense.  To do this I will need to post at least 10 hubs with no expectation of any immediate income and no guarantee that after doing so I will be accepted by AdSense.

Am I figuring this correctly? Or are there other ways to make money at Hub pages?

    1. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 9 years agoin reply to this

Yes, you are figuring it correctly - but these days, Adsense is becoming more fussy and it's better to wait until you have 20 Hubs before applying.

That's not as bad as it sounds, because most of your income will come from readers who find your Hub on Google, and Google will usually take time to list your Hub prominently enough.  So even if you had Adsense from day 1, you'd probably make just a few pennies in those early weeks.

The way to make money on HubPages is to write on evergreen subjects which help people - e.g. tips for a hobby, or help for a problem.   It's a long term investment, as it can take over a year for an individual Hub to reach its earnings potential.  P{ay attention to the check boxes on the top right hand corner when you're editing a Hub, and aim to tick as many of them as you can.
