Let's imagine a situation: You have recently won a lottery of 1 million euro. You are sitting in your living room, with some of that cash on the table before you. Someone enters the room (let's say, an electrician). He wants to steal that cash.
The best way that he/she can steal your cash is by altering your awareness of what 'stealing' actually is.
If he can somehow make you watch one (or more) video footages that he has authored to numb down your level of awareness ~ so that radically new ideas may be sealed upon it ~ and then he makes you watch (for at-least 15 years) a video like this:
A man has won a lottery and he is sitting in the living room of his newly bought house. An electrician enters the room and discovers a lot of cash on the table, before his client. The electrician takes away all that money and goes away quietly.
Sounds very much like religious indoctrination without the religious angle. Is that your point? That religion is nothing but a fictional "movie" you've been forced to watch for a lifetime? That your "awareness" is simply indoctrination by a group wanting your money/time/belief/worship?
You are right. It is about forcing 'belief' upon others so that they can be manipulated ~ up to an astonishingly devastating level.
But it's not only in religion that this phenomenon happens. My contention is that 'it's' a human phenomenon ~ that is: that this desire to manipulate someone is inherent in the nature of some human beings. They may employ any method ~ and infiltrate through any field of human interest (religion, education, education system, media, literature, advertisement, science and scientific theories) ~ that enables them to achieve their desired objective. They basically don't care much about the methods employed.
They simply want the 'cash'.
The simple truth is not everyone want to manipulate others to the extent that you described. You will find that the narcissistic do. They even manipulate themselves into thinking they are right and justified.
Of course it is a human phenomenon in the big picture. We want something from someone (cash, love, sex, help, whatever) we manipulate them in the hopes of getting what we want.
Ever buy flowers for your girl? Was it just because you like seeing her happy or (maybe buried so deep you don't even realize it) are you wanting her love, sex or a great dinner? Ever require something from a child and withhold TV privileges until they produce it? You are manipulating that child to behave.
At perhaps the very top of the list is the "science" of selling; the psychology of how to convince others to buy. Look into how big stores stock their shelves; how they determine which shelf to put things on. You will be amazed and dismayed at how well store designers understand human psychology and how well it is used to increase profits.
Very well said and you went to the heart of the subject.
The news channels are a 'good' place to observe this 'thing' in live. The way their 'news presenters' look and behave, from their facial expressions to the movement of even their fingers ~ are all examples of subtle manipulation that we are talking about.
It's something very basic in the human nature. Children (not all of them) are mostly free of this element.
This 'element' (the satanic desire to manipulate) is not found in any other sentient lifeform (cats, dogs, lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants etc). It's something essentially human.
Does it have any link to the fact that of all the lifeforms on earth ~ only human beings commit suicide?
Sorry, you did say 15 years? That's not a typo? Are you sure it's not 15 minutes or hours?
What you're actually saying here is that one person is going to spend 15 years of their lives making another person watch the same film over and over... for 15 years? Years?

Is religion taught from birth a form of brainwashing? If you teach a child from birth a particular religion, is this not brainwashing? Would that child discover that religion on their own if it's something they weren't taught?

Why Do Parents Send Their Children To Christian Schools?I personally think that each person should have to choice to partake in any (or no) religion of their choosing. It is a very personally matter that should be made individually. So it really bugs me when evangelical parents send their kids to...

This is probably going to be a very touchy subject, but I am curious to see the responses. There are many who want the creation story and God taught in school. I am curious, why does this need to be taught in academia? Are these topics not covered in Church or Sunday School anymore? Besides, who...

This is not to say the belief sets of the radical Right and the radical Muslims are the same - they are not and are, if fact, diametrically opposed. But how different are the methods used conservative Imams to produce suicide bombers and the conservative radical Right leaders (Q for example)...

I'd like to know your thoughts on the matter. Your thoughts, not the thoughts of people a few thousand years ago.
