Everybody's always dating someone's friend or humping someone's best friend. And there's always a bunch of jocks who always play sports, and drink beer, and party. And there's always a bunch of blonde cheerleaders, with their tiny pleated skirts (not a bad thing), who're always fighting over the hottest dude. And everybody is always hammered, every damn time. And the ones who even have half a brain, and is smart and all, cant even walk up to a lady. Gawd! Honest to god, if I went to a college like in one of those movies, I would strap a C4 on my stupid chest and blow everyone to hell, to friggin' kiddin! Gawd, if I ever have to watch any of those movies again, I'll puke my guts out. No friggin' kiddin! Hey, i know a lot of people like that stuff, but if there's only one person in these forums, who at least is a bit nauseated, at least, by these imbecile movies, I guarantee, in fact, I pledge I'll hold you in the highest esteem. No friggin' kiddin!

Well, they're for Teens aren't they. I don't watch them - even the very popular American Pie didn't interest me. smile

Sorry but I tend to like quite a lot of them. Maybe not the versions you describe. But a lot of high school/college based movies are amazing!
Dead Poets Society, Donnie Darko, Superbad, The Breakfast Club, Clueless, Varsity Blues, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (No one can object to Phoebe Cates- even you cj), With Honors, Old School, Animal House,

    They're all great movies.

I have to second colebabie. But I understand that there is a certain type of high school movies which is quite obnoxious. So to some degree I have to second the OP, too smile.

When I was younger I loved to read the old European 'high school' literature. There used to be quite many, especially from German authors, e.g. Hermann Hesse, Heinrich Mann (the brother of Thomas) or Friedrich Torberg. In those old days the German schools were almost like boot camp and the professors where god-like creatures. Obviously, said authors had a lot of Freudanian self-analysis to do.

I like the fact that the teenagers go and see them....

it means less noise and annoying giggles in the other theatres when I go to see the movies that I want to see

While not the first movies I rush out and see, I can list quite a few of this "genre" that I did/do enjoy.
In addition to Animal House and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, movies set in high schools/colleges that I like include:
    1. Election -- Reese Witherspoon is withering!
    2. Drum Line
    3. Revenge of the Nerds -- Yes, really!
    4. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
    5. American Pie -- Yes, I really like this movie!
    6. Sixteen Candles
    7. Breakfast Club
    8. Footloose -- Just saw this one today. Vintage!
    9. Sydney White
    10. Halloweentown

The list could go on and on. Usually the evil jocks and cheerleaders get their comeuppance, so what's not to love about that?
