It would be great to start out the new year with a writing competition.  What do you think the chances are?
It would be great to see a list of titles with entry and closing dates for each competition posted at the beginning of each year.  What do you think?

      Hi, Sally,
I only wanted to pop in to say Hello.
I think you have great ideas.
      Who would judge these articles?

I love your beautiful photo of the butterfly.
I'm sure you took that photo.
There is very little you cannot do!
      DJ.

        Hello DJ
HubPages staff would judge the competition and award the prizes.
I was fortunate enough to win one last year - the most money I have earned in any one month since being on hubpages two years ago -  very generous and so lovely to receive the recognition.
Yes, I did take the butterfly image - the little critters are a big part of my life and my macro photography:)
Have a very happy new year DJ
        Sally

Hi Sally. I think that is a great idea. I love writing contests. Count me in.

Well then, we just need to persuade those over worked HubPages staff that we need a little encouragement to write some quality hubs for them.

I agree. A contest always results in a big surge of hubs, so it benefits HP and all of us. If they do have a contest, I hope there will be more than one or two categories. I would go for poetry and creative writing.

Judges could be picked by the staff - three judges for each category would be about right. The judges would have to be quite knowledgeable and successful in and about the category they judge.

One good turn deserves another - they get some great hubs and we earn a little more than usual - a match made in heaven.

A competition could be really cool! We could definitely have different sections for different types of writing, ie, fiction, how-tos, poetry, etc. I would definitely be interested.

A competition would definitely give everyone an incentive to write some top quality hubs.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I'd enter more than one probably.

Even for someone without much time to enter competitions, a prepared list of events throughout the year might give me time to at least consider entering. Knowing the subject and time deadline would be a good incentive. Excellent idea.

chef-de-jour Good ideas are sometimes not enough.  One can live in hope though - a response from staff would be nice.   I certainly appreciate your response and support,  thank you.

They keep employing new editors, why not appoint someone full time to organising and running contests?

Problem is they have to pay these Editors!  Perhaps the budget does not extend to paying the Writers as well. I think it would be beneficial for everyone as it should produce some quality writing - long term that has to be good for everyone.
