HubPages Seems to Have It In For One of My Hubs

A few days ago, I found the broken link icon on my Cute funny Baby Elephant Videos page.  After tracking down the broken link, I removed it.  But the broken link icon, after briefly disappearing, reappeared.  I searched high and low to what I'd missed, but found nothing.  So, I clicked on the Check for Violations button.  Nothing was found.  A short time later, the BL icon disappeared.  But within an hour, it was back.  This "dance" was repeated several times.  Finally the BL icon disappeared for good.

But yesterday, I got a noticed that this same page was being unfeatured for being too spammy.  I saw that there were three Amazon links...so I removed not one, but two of them...just to be on the safe side.  I kept the Amazon link for a stuffed baby elephant because the page is about baby elephants!  But the unfeatured icon remained.

Next, although I saw only two Zazzle links on the page, I removed one of them.  But still the page remains unpublished.

Can anyone tell me what makes this lens "spammy" when it contains so few links?   http://swisstoons.hubpages.com/hub/cute-baby-elephants

Check your Zazzle link.   If you've used the HTML link from Squidoo, that actually has three links in it.  And remember, your links in photo capsules count towards the total.   You can have only two links to the same domain.

Thank you.  Yes, I've removed all Z links.

I still think it's interesting and not spammy.

The broken link warnings happen automatically.  Maybe the site was making adjustments and taking down the page, adjusting it, etc.

Take a look at this forum post, and other similar ones.

I have a feeling that it is your Zazzle that is causing problems. I read somewhere that each former Zazzle capsule has 3 links?  You will want to make sure there is no more than 2 links to any one website.

Also what does a stuffed elephant have to do with watching a cute elephant video.  It is not directly related enough.  I don't need a stuffed elephant to watch a video.

Remember, you do get paid for people simply looking at your hub and watching the video.  You don't have to turn it into a store. The focus should be on the video and not the products.

Thanks very much for responding.  I really only have one Zazzle link remaining on this lens.  I haven't gone over the 2-link limit on any hub as far as I know.   As for the one remaining Amazon link, I thought that the cute baby elephants in the video and the stuffed cute baby elephant being sold on Amazon were similar enough to warrant posting the link.  I thought that if cute baby elephants are appealing to readers/viewers...especially those watching with kids...then the opportunity to buy a stuffed version might be welcome.  That was my reasoning, at least.  Thanks, again!

It's an interesting hub and I enjoyed looking at it, but the items that you're trying to sell don't seem to belong in the hub. The thing that struck me most of all when I was reading it was that although your hub discusses elephants and mammoths, you're trying to sell baby shower invitations. Your hub isn't about baby showers, so trying to sell shower invitations doesn't seem to be related to the rest of the hub, even though the invitations have elephant pictures on them.

I missed the shower invitations since I had my ad blocker on.  Congrats on your 100 Hubber Score Alicia!

Thank you for taking the time to critique the hub.  You make good points, as did Millionaire Tips.  Again, I thought the elephant connection with the links was enough to warrant their inclusion.   But whether or not their removal helps my chances of getting the hub refeatured, it certainly won't hurt anything since no sales have resulted from their presence.  Thank you, again!  PS -  I've decided to remove the possible offending links in increments, removing the Zazzle invitations references first.  If that doesn't work, I'll take down the Amazon link, too.

It's your hub and you can do what you want.  I think it is very likely that you won't get any sales out of that hub anyway, so if it was my hub, I would delete the sales content.  It just makes the site less spammy, which is our goal, so that the search engines see us as a high quality place to get information.

It is possible that even if you manage to get the hub featured by taking away one of the items, the site might have stricter standards and you will have to go through this effort all over again.  Save your sales content for hubs that are actually likely to make sales and make your hubs the very best they can be.

This is a very cute hub but I would take out the word "Lens" in the title of the first text capsule after the poll about which video do you like best and replace it with something else.

Done!  Thank you for calling my attention to it.  I guess you can tell on which other writers' website this lens...er...hub...first appeared.  big_smile
