Love HubPages: but Image sizing better at Squidoo

I really like it here on HubPages and think, in most ways, it is better than Squidoo, but there is one thing that I miss.  I use lots of images and on Squidoo I could change the height  of images to 300 pixels and that would make all the images on my page the same height.

Granted some images didn’t fit to the very edges of the module, but they were centered.  I thought the look was so much cleaner than the huge variety of sizes (heights) that we have here, even though the image does fill the module.

I have tried editing my images to 590 pixels so they fill the width of the module but the images still show at a variety of heights.

Is there a way to make all the images on my hubs the same height?   I prefer the spaces on the sides of the images to the outsized, many different heights of images.

I can see using the full width image in the first module of a hub, but after that it would be more attractive if the image heights would be the same, in my opinion.

      Hi lbrummer,

I'm very glad to hear you're liking HubPages!

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to resize your image's height in the HubTool, but I find that PicMonkey is a pretty good tool for small edits like resizing images, and it's free. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Christy, for your reply.  I do use PicMonkey for editing images for my blog, and  really like it. I've tried resizing the images for my hubs but I can't seem to find the right size.
I just thought I'd ask about the image heights in case I'd missed the information.
I hope that someday HubPages makes it possible because my hubs would look a lot better with consistent image heights.

I think it's not currently a feature because many Hubbers prefer long images (they work particularly well with Pinterest) and because we simply don't have the engineering resources to implement a lot of new features unless we can be certain they will be widely-used and benefit as many Hubbers as possible. But I will keep your suggestion in mind, and bring it up, should we tackle a HubTool redesign in the future. smile

I use Picmonkey.com all the time and am able to get just about any size image I want.  It's fun to use, too!

The dimension that you cannot change on HP is width -- full-width photos are 520 pixels wide and half-width photos are 260 pixels wide.  So if you want to maintain the same height for all your full-width photos (whatever number of pixels that may be) then you need to keep the height-to-width ratio the same.

For example, if you want all of your full-width photos to be 600 pixels tall, then the height-to-width ratio of all your full width photos needs to be 15:13.  In other words, you have to crop your photos so that the height is 15/13 (or about 1.154) times the width.

And for the desired height of your half-width photos, you need to find the ratio that you want to remain constant and crop accordingly.  Pixlr.com is another good free online photo editor that has most of the same features as GIMP and Photoshop.

    Hope that helps!
