Weird issue with google analytics

   Since the stats won't update, I went to GA to see how my hubs were doing. I have 101 hubs, but GA only showed 98. (My last hub was posted a week ago.)
   
   Worse I found some weird pages listed , such as:  /www.torture.ml/reply734521  I went there and it is in a foreign language but it has my picture on it.  I also found  /www.rapidgator-porn.ga/post61561. That url didn't take me anyplace  What is this?

      When I tried clicking the url again, I got to what was clearly an intro page for porn. (it had nothing to do with me so far as I could tell.) Why in the world is that url in my GA account?  do I need to do something about.it.

         The link appears to be a foreign language version of an adwords forum community (MY picture is on it when I open it).  When translated, the discussion appears to be about the problem you are also encountering, with no known solution to date.

            Thanks Wilderness. Was it Italian? It didn't occur to me to use an online translator. I don't think I even know how to do that.
            
            I just had to deal with my first known incidence of copied content and now this.
            
            do you think this is something new and that is why people are discussing it in the forum..

      Some websites that copy content from here open it in a frame. When that happens, any coding on your page will continue to work. The analytics tracking code will tracks views as intended but show a view at that website address instead of the URL where you'd expect to see the page.
      
      As for why spammers would do that...I imagine it's mainly to try and piggyback off your content in search engine results pages. No definite answer though as it's probably the handiwork of bots rather than something an actual human has done.

         Thanks Matthew. What's a frame? My stuff doesn't have search engine results--not high results anyway. Why would any one or any bot want to piggy back on it?  Which hubs.  I think this only started in the past week. I only just learned how to see the GA results and I didn't notice this the first few times I used GA.  It is showing one view.  Is this bad for me or something I should just ignore?  So far as I know the original url goes to my web page. How does the spammer get traffic to his porn site? I'm not really understanding this.

            I figured out one thing. GA only lists the hubs that have had views in the selected time period. That is why I only saw 98 instead of 101.

   Wow! Now that is scary to be innocently associated with that type of disreputable content. I would think that would be a bug that Google would be fixing ASAP. That is pretty frightening to think this crap can influence Google's view of our online profile.

      Will it hurt my google rankings? I'm going to send an email about this to HP team. They are the tech experts. I am hoping they can figure out a way to stop it.  I don't even understand what is happening, but it doesn't sound good. I surely don't want to be associated with porn--torture porn no less.

         Since this is showing up in your Analytics report, it means one of two things: Either they copied all the code from your Hub, including the Analytics code, or they used an HTML frame to reference your Hub within their page. No matter which is the case, I would consider this plagiarism and you should send a DMCA Takedown Notice to the web host of that site.
         
         It's also possible that your AdSense code may be in that copy and if it is, you need to report it to Google as an AdSense violation.

            Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I can do a DMCA. I don't know which hub they copied or piggy backed on. When I follow the link, I just see semi-naked women. I don't see any of my content.

               Actually this is getting even weirder. At first I thought they were using "adwords" in their URL just to mislead people. But I just checked and that domain is registered by Google.

               So I have no idea what's going on. If I were you I'd try my best to report it to Google at this point and tell them that that page on that domain has porn and that it's showing up in your own Analytics report. They may take it from there and investigate (hopefully).

   Here's an article on moz.com discussing referrer spam and how to block it so we don't get distorted Google Analytics reports. Though I find that Google doesn't include the referrer spam in my overview numbers.
