Yesterday when I was working on a Hub, each time I tried to cut and paste some text from Word, it appeared not to show up in the block, at all. I could not see it at all until I had saved the page. When it appeared, it showed up two or three lines below the top of the block and I had to reduce the space so that the text was at the top of the block. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Word tends to put in some hidden code for punctuation! You may have inadvertantly typed in a 'paragraph' shift and then transferred that over with you cut and paste?
Sorry you are having trouble creating your Hub.
Word and other programs have text with formatting that may not transfer properly when you copy and paste. We suggest using a plain text editor to work on the copy on your computer. You can then save a backup locally and copy paste the plain text to your capsules from a program like Notepad++
As of this time we have had no other reports of any issues like this, so it could be an issue with your computer or browser.
Try these steps (including clearing your browser cache and restarting your computer).

If you are still having problems, please email us at team@hubpages.com
I have cleared my cache and updated my browser, I will see how it goes now. I noticed there was another thread with the same problem and took your advice:) Thank you very much.
Hope that it works for you.
Sometimes it is just a single browser extension causing the issue.
For example, we have had a few people report problems specifically with Grammarly recently and disabling that extension fixed their issue.
I have a love-hate relationship with Grammarly and this might be the problem, but I love being able to write and have an editor help me keep things free of errors. I am hoping that what I have done with the browser and cache will be sufficient so that I can keep it. It has been a brilliant help in editing a large chunk of my hubs already. I may complete the task and then delete it but what a difference it has made to have a tool like Grammarly.
It could be an issue with just this version of Chrome or with the specific version of the Grammarly extension.
I have not used it, but it appears there is a version for Firefox as well.

It may be due to your net connectivity or may be problem in your browser.
OR may be Yesterday Scheduled Maintenance
This message shown in hubtool"
HubPages is currently in a scheduled maintenance window. The site is expected to be operating normally again in about 30 minutes.
In order to protect our users from a frustrating editing experience, the HubTool is currently unavailable for use"
I know only these reasons.
Thanks. Guys, no don't think I did anything different to what I do normally do. I did see that there was some Scheduled Maintenance late last night, our time in the UK but don't know if this was the reason. Will just have to see what happens next time I write a hub:)
I think it may have been because of the scheduled maintence. I tried to edit a Hub at that time and could not. Then I saw the message. BTW: I have started writing my articles on Google+. The document is easier to copy/paste. I lost a lot of work in Word when I got a Trojan Horse about a year ago. Documents are saved safely on Google+.

I did not know I could do that. I have always used Word. I will have to check it out, thanks.
Sally
Be careful if you write your Hubs on Google+ first as that could result in them showing as duplicate if you then later try to publish the same content on HubPages.
Think I will stick to Word, Matt. Yesterday I was using Headings instead of Paragraph, perhaps this was the problem. I wanted something which might give me an A - Z Guide with wrapped text but the only thing which I could come up with was Heading 3 - not quite what I wanted but I had to go with it in the end. Do you have a better alternative I could have used, please? I used this on my A - Z Recycling Guide for Allotment Gardeners.
I did some experimenting yesterday per you request to have a large letter start off and I was not able to find a way to use HTML and keep the letter together. I was trying to do header text as well. In each case it resulted in a space after my first character.
So this
<h2>A</h2>ge
Ended up having a break after the A.
Can I put this into the HTML section and try it out? Could you make it much larger than we usually have it? I wanted it to look like the old children's story books we used to read.
I tested the HTML but it is rather small.
What I was saying was I couldn't get it to show a different size for one character and the whole word still show on the same line.
The text formatting options are limited.
Someone suggested trying an image of the first letter, so maybe you could put one letter in a photo capsule.
You are setting your Hub up for a big whammy from Google for using too many H-tags. That is considered spam to a search engine. H-tags are for indicating the structural hierarchy of a webpage; they are not to be used as a substitute for changing the font size or as a substitute for bolding. At the most, you could have an H-2 Tag for every major section of at least five hundred words. For major sections of 1,000 words headed with an H-2 Tag, you could sub-section with two H-3 tags.
What you have on your Hub is about 3,000 words, 38 H-2 tags and 72 H-3 tags. Way too many! You can't put a single sentence underneath an H-3 tag. A single sentence is NOT a major subsection of a webpage!
For a Hub, you can use a photo capsule like this:
Of, use a page-divider like this:
Writer Fox
Thanks, don't know what we would do without you here. I will change them. Not sure how I would make or do what you suggest here.
Sally
For the letters of the alphabet, just find images that you can use without attribution. The red letter above is from: http://pixabay.com/en/alphabet-a-abc-letter-150764
And, the whole alphabet is here:
http://pixabay.com/en/photos/?q=Alphabe … &order
For the page dividers, just copy this image to your computer:
Then, choose 'edit' on this website, upload the photo, and choose the font you want:

Oh, dear, Matthew. I am so dumb, I guess. I just assumed Google + documents were like just another word processor! I did not know documents created there were published, etc. I like it cause it seems to be safer than Word as far as preservation is concerned.
I have used Google Docs for years and never had any problem with duplicate material from that source. Just make sure all your docs are designated owned by you and do not share any of them with anybody.
Google Docs / My Drive is an excellent help mate when it comes to editing. It checks all my spelling and grammar and underlines what needs to be corrected. It is easy to copy and paste from Google Docs to HubPages hub edit capsules.
If it has to do with how Word formats, using Note Pad instead could help. Note Pad doesn't do the formatting code thing and, in my experience, you can just copy and paste from Note Pad with no problem.
Edit: I think the only problem I've had with using Note Pad is that when you paste it, it will not break up paragraphs; then you end up having to go through and break up paragraphs.

Thanks, strange, I have never had this problem before. Think I am going to try and forget about it until the next time then. Thanks for your help.

Still having problems posting text from word to a new Hub. The text still does not show up until you save what looks like a blank page and then hey presto there is the text but it is also two spaces below where the text should have been pasted.
Grammarly could be causing the problems. If you have a malware and CCleaner then you can use them with your antivirus to check for problems that it may be causing. I do not know whether you got the online or dowloaded version.

Every time I try to post a comment, the page flips up to the top and, when I scroll back down, the comment is still there, unposted. I've cleaned my cache, tried a different browser but no luck.
