Hello,
Fairly new to this site and enjoying it a great deal. Have thus far not been able to engage with community too much due to things being rather busy all at once! I would appreciate it if anyone could cast an eye over any of the Hubs I have so far published. I do not seek in-depth feedback at all, feel free to do so If you wish though!
Have not got so much faith in my writing abilities nor whether what I write is in fitting or else suited to the site? Put link to my profile below and feel free to read any of my published Hubs, perhaps that you'd personally find more interesting. Would be happy to return the favour if needs be also!
Kind Regards,
Shonaigh

Hi Shonaigh,
I really enjoyed your hub, "Favourite Corner of Scotland." I think that you have something unique to share with the community, life in Scotland.
Your writing style is a bit different than most Americans, which I find charming.
Though I am not yet an expert on being a "hubber," you seem a little like me, that is you probably don't promote yourself enough. I do not have a Facebook account (a little shy), but one of the gentlemen about whom I wrote an article put my article on his Facebook page, and the hits went up very quickly.
Hang in there, Shonaigh and don't give up!
Best,
Vagabond Laborer
Thank-you very much for the kind words. I too do not have Facebook and find the self publicising thing odd and daunting. It does not come naturally to promote self, as this is what you are bearing quite with your writing! Feel quite behind the times in terms of the whole social media thing.
All the best with your writing, I'll certainly be interested to have read your work.
Welcome to HubPages. I scanned a few of your hubs and it looks like you are off to a great start.
Here are my recommendations:
1. Read the Learning Center entries about how to write a quality hub. There is a lot of good advice in the Learning Center, and the advice is very helpful.
2. Write shorter paragraphs, and add titles to these paragraphs. (You do this by having a text capsule for each paragraph, but I think you know that). People online tend to skim, and long paragraphs make it look too much like work.
3. Think about the reader. Your memories hub is interesting, but seems more like a diary or blog post and not geared towards the reader. Why should anyone read it? You can fix that by changing the focus somewhat - maybe Music in Scotland?
4. Craft titles that specifically tell the reader what your hub is about. Most people will come go your hubs through a search engine, so you want to make sure that your readers and the search engines know what your hub is about.
5. Proofread, proofread, proofread. It is easy to get anxious to publish and skip this step, but grammar is very important. This is a step that I tend to miss or don't do as carefully as I should. I always find things to fix when I go back to re-read my hub. Your hubs aren't rife with errors, but I did see a few.
Good luck to you. I wish you much success here at HubPages.
Thanks so much for the great tips. Have already gone through hubs and changed the layout, what a difference. Improves the readability so very much. It is so true too about the grammar side and proof reading, things are so easily missed if you've typed fast. When your mind is working quick you do make silly mistakes. Look forward to getting more involved, the challenges and forum community look very good.
Millionaire Tips has given you some excellent advice. I disagree with Vagabond about the Facebook promotion though - it's a common myth that you "must" be on Facebook, but there's not much point unless you have a specialist subject (in which case you create a specialist page for it on Facebook) or you're a member of Facebook groups that would be interested in your Hubs.
If you look on the Spotlight section of my profile, you'll find a few Hubs on how to Hub which might be useful to you. In particular, check the one on how to use photos legally, you don't want to get sued!

Hi!I am new to HubPages and need HELP! I joined a couple of days ago and have only been able to publish one article. I am unclear as to how postings work. I was under the impression that once I chose a title for my hub, I could just continue to add new topics. I want my Hub...

I'd like to suggest we get rid of Hubber Score - and perhaps even Hub Scores. They:- are constantly misunderstood;- cause a lot of upset and grief in the forums; and- encourage newbie Hubbers to direct their efforts in entirely wrong directionsFor instance, I've known newbie Hubbers stop...

I am a student and i have little extra time. I would like to utilize my time writing hubs here only if I can really...

I thought if a hubpage was listed in Google search it was featured. But apparently that is not the truth. I guess I will keep the hubs up and run my own check on them.

It looks like a fourth of my feed lately is comprised of new people wanting the rest of us to tell them how to write. All day I get request after request for help on passing the Quality Assessment. I mean Really? Many of your requests are just one step above being a jumble of mis-spelled words...
