Does anyone do HubChallenges anymore?

I'm just coming back after a several year hiatus, and one of the most exciting things that started when I was here was the HubChallenge. Originally, it was 30 hubs in 30 days. Now I see it's changed to either updating your hubs or 30 hubs in 60 days. I tried the original once, and I failed miserably... But this time, I'm down for the challenge and even have mapped out 30 topics that I can do consistently and of great quality. And in 30 days! So, my question is - is anyone else doing a hub challenge? Which are you doing? Are you sticking to a specific topic? My first challenge consisted of my poetry, but I hit a brick wall at like - 10. LOL! I'd love to hear from you guys!

Now and then I hear of someone doing a hub challenge like the 30 hubs in 30 days but not often anymore. I sometimes participate in April Poetry Month and try and write a poem every day or as many as I can that month. Also, other hubbers sometimes come up with a writing challenge e.g. a photo prompt or topic that you have to write a poem or story about. I find those the most enjoyable challenges.

That sounds awesome! I'm going to keep a lookout for those challenges. I love a good kick in the writing rear! XD

Hurriedly written pages do not do well, these days. HP generally want stellar hubs.

Yes, I realize that the more rushed the hubs are, the less inviting they tend to be. That's why this time I've mapped out exactly what I'm going to write each day, gathered my own photos, and made sure that each hub will be a stellar hub. I'm doing it, I'm on day 7 (I think) and so far I've written 7 hubs that have all been featured so far. All have been over 1200 words, most are at 1500. It is possible, and I intend to make it happen this time. XD

In another place at another time I tried a 30-articles-in-30-days challenge. When I look back at those pieces now I'm a bit embarrassed at their poor quality. The only way I could meet such a challenge now is to write the articles over a much longer period of time, put them in the hopper, and release one each day. But what's the point of that?

That's kind of the way I'm approaching it. I'm a stubborn woman, most times more stubborn for my own good. So I've sat and written out the outlines of each hub for each day. When my son goes off to school, I sit down and start writing. I'll take pictures if I need to to help describe what I'm talking about. I suppose it's helping me that the subject I'm writing has a plethora of interesting subjects to touch on. I'm a cake artist, so instead of focusing on poetry or creative writing this time, I'm focusing on cake art techniques that are rarely taught and most folks have to learn on their own through trial and error. There's no limit to the subject matter I can address, and I can get into great detail with each. I know there are some folks who won't find it interesting in the least, but there will be plenty who will be looking for exactly what I'm writing about at the same time. big_smile

Back in the day I did 4 hubchallenges in a row.

Nowadays my record is 12 posts in a day (on one of my own sites). Someone else I know here did 100 posts in 30 days on her site. I'm not even going to TRY to beat that.

I miss Shadebreath's 30 minute hub challenges sad those were fun.

YES! I remember those!!! And holy crap that's a lot of writing! There's no way I could do 100 in 30 days. I've been here 8 years and haven't passed 100 hubs yet! LOL! Is shadesbreath still around anymore?

Shadesbreath is a favorite of mine-- he has gone onward and upward with his science fiction  fantasy books authored under the name of John Daulton. I think he has 5 or more.-- Google Daulton Books.

I did a couple of 30-in-30 challenges in the past; it was a motivator, but also hard to find so much to write about.  In one it was part of a group challenge, where the site were encouraging people to join in the challenge.... and I won some extra money for that as you got one entry in the draw for each hub you published - and I won $200 in total, so that made it worthwhile!

It is a good way for somebody with, say, 10 hubs, who now "get it", to push forward and get a reasonable arsenal of hubs under their belt once and for all.

I don't even look at the challenge threads these days though.

Actually, thinking about it, that "site-wide challenge" included having to put a specific image into your hubs to show it was included .... a pirate treasure chest image and you had to do some other stuff (I can't remember what) - and then, about 2-3 years later, it caused me extra work as some of what we were required to do "broke new rules" so I had to strip some of it out.

Generally, now, unless something significantly changes income-wise, I'm happy with the quantity I now possess.

I don't remember the challenges where you had to add a certain pic, I must not have been around then. I do remember reading some of the hubchallenge hubs and most were excellent by excellent writers. There were some that were poor, but I don't think it was because they were pushing so hard to finish. I think it was because their work was poor in the first place. XD

The best I did was like 35 or so in a week on another writing size W...zley. They still get me sales every now and then so I'd say that was pretty cool. On my website I've done some decent work like 30 in a month or so. Never on Hub Pages. No time for that sad I'd love to give it a shot one day. Good luck completing your challenge. I read one of your hubs nice pics too.

35 in a week? Holy crap! There's no way I could do that. My head would probably explode lol. Thanks for your compliment on my hub! I've been trying to use my own personal pics for my hubs. I feel like I can explain myself better if I use my own picture. I just checked out your work as well, I like your subject matter and should probably read more of it. XD

Yup just like you I had the topics in mind. I spent a week before that doing some keyword research and drafted out a plan before I began. It was during a summer break. I told myself that I would only begin playing a game "Age of Empires on steam" once I complete 35 articles. And that was a good enough motivator lol. I can't do that anymore. I get distracted haha. Once in a lifetime kind of thing, I guess. I literally spent every awake hour on the computer that week.

Wow! That's some serious determination! Good on you. I seriously don't think I could do it! I could try, but I think it may make my head explode.

I would love to do more challenges just to help keep motivation up with others; but not 30 in 30 days.

Prompts with photos is a great idea, or quotes or even just a random topic.

Or even just a bunch of people getting together for a night, a day, a weekend, etc. for a writing/editing marathon-- defining their own goals & cheering each other on with every task ticked off the box. Coming back to check in every now and then on a thread like that helps keep the work chugging along.

It's just the camaraderie that's always fun, not necessarily that we have to push ourselves past limits into churning out poor quality stuff.

The main Hub Challenge never had any camaraderie really - the 30 Hubs in 30 Day Challenge was simply a personal challenge that each Hubber did on their own for their own personal satisfaction.

The 100 Hubs in 30 Days was a group activity but it was a disaster, with many Hubbers posting rubbish Hubs!   HubPages basically stopped supporting group Challenges after that.

I've been part of other writing groups where we have a message board, we check in with each other, report how we're doing, joke around about how the cat tried to hijack the keyboard and his writing was better, throw some encouragement at each other to hit the person's goal of the day, share funny writing memes, etc. It was nice.

I tried doing that a couple times here at HP but not many people were into it. I wouldn't mind having something like that here at HP though... it just makes the day fun is all without getting too distracted. I'd be up for that if anyone wanted to do that.

That's what the forums on HP are for and how they used to be.

I miss the Weekly Topic Inspiration. I didn't do a lot of them, but two of my best performing hubs were inspired by them.
