   Hello All,
   
   I am back to hub pages after about a 3 year hiatus.
   I look forward to getting into the writing thing.
   I have a few questions for those who have stayed when I left.
   I noticed some are no longer here.
   
   So, my quick questions are..
   
   1.)  Is it allowed to write "opinion" pieces for the politics sections?
   
   2.) Will I have to have the hub I write "featured" in order for the rest of the community to see it?
   will hub pages allow it to be published if it's not "feature quality"?
   
   3.) How the heck has everyone been?? 
   
   Hugs for everyone of you! Let's cross our fingers and hope that the higher ups will not treat me like an old pro- when I am still learning. Every day is a learning experience when it comes to writing.

      Welcome back Jo, it is good to hear from you.  I guess we will have to wait and see:)   Take it one hub at a time and I am sure everything will fall into place.

      Hi, and welcome back.  I didn't know of you before, but I was definitely here!
      
      As for your questions: 
      
      Yes, you can write opinion pieces.  However, those types of hubs don't seem to get a lot of views and mostly they are not evergreen.
      
      Now when you write a hub it goes through the Quality Assessment Program.  If it passes, it is then featured.  Once it is featured, search engines can see it.  If it's not featured, other writers and people on social networking sites can see it if you market it to them.
      
      Once a hub is featured a moderator will review it to see if it can be moved up to a niche site.  There are 25 of them.  They only move those that are (supposedly) top quality.  You want them to move your stuff because the niche sites is where you will make your money.
      
      Every 14 days you can also submit a hub to a niche site, but if your hubs are new, it's better to wait and see if the team will move them.  If you have older hubs, that are still online here, then definitely update and try to submit.
      
      A lot has changed, so it will take time for you to learn all of the new rules.  Fortunately, you can ask away here on the forums!

         As far moving up in the search engine(s) and the rate of hubs goes.
         I will market my own work and link backs that I have learned to do.
         My understanding of social media marketing has so improved since when I first started here 6 years ago!! Nice to meet you :-)

            I'm not sure what you mean by "linkbacks", but I'd check on that one before I tried it.  Google has really tightened up on, for example, using blogs to link back to an HP article, if that's what you're talking about.  Also, while social marketing is good, you have to watch your ratios because if you have too many clicks from social networking sites and not enough from standard search engines you might create some problems for yourself.
            
            The point is that the majority of your views should come naturally from Google, etc...and you will need to get your work up onto the niche sites in order to become well ranked.
            
            The niche sites are actually a set of magazines the team set up awhile back.  Each covers a particular topic, so they move hubs from all writers here into that particular magazine.  For example, if you write about politics, your work would go to Soapboxie.
            
            This new method has worked extremely well for most writers here, and it will for you, too, if you give it a chance.

               I can't believe they actually listened to someones feed back and advice.
               It is good to know they listened when it came to creating specified magazine categories to expand Hub Pages brand. Did they implement the *perk* of the highest ranking writer ends up going through a boot camp of sorts and then becomes head editor for the specific magazine. Not really to fond of the "Soap boxie " as the name for political features. But hey! At least they implemented the idea. cool :-)

   Hi Jo, has it really been three years? My, how time flies. There have been a lot of changes here, with niche sites and all but you'll soon get back into the swing of things. Opinion hubs in the political section should be fine, but take one at a time and see. Hubs can be published even if not featured. I have a couple. Good to see you.

      Good to see you. :-)  It was two years ago since my last attempt.
      I kept receiving a message explaining they wouldn't publish it and re write it.
      I tired like three times. So, I hope I have learned enough to actually see some of the results. This time around, I am actually reading the Learning Center stuff! :-)

   TimeTraveler's first post explained it well.   A Featured Hub is just an ordinary Hub.  An UnFeatured Hub has had a "no follow" tag attached to it, so Google will ignore it - it's effectively invisible, except to people who have the link. 
   
   I have a couple of Hubs which would be worth reading to bring you up to date.  One is about the Basic Rules (some of them have changed, and that Hub reflects the current status).  The other is about what to do with unFeatured Hubs.  Both are on the slider on my profile.
