   Say it ain't so! We were all so preoccupied with the tragedy in NV. When rock was dead, he was one of those who brought it back. You will be very missed. And you won't be "standing at the Gates of Hell" for giving joy to so many. You will soar with angel's wings.

      I'm happy to see your post. I'm surprised Tom Petty passing has not garnered much interest on Hub Pages. It's trending on Twitter. He's a Travelling Wilbury now, with his mates Roy Orbison and George Harrison.

         I've spent time listening to old songs, he was very talented, and played more instruments than people realize. I, like you, thought of the Wilbury's too. I still listen to George Harrsion's All Things Must Pass, it's one of those I'd need on that proverbial desert island. At least Tom isn't Free Falling anymore, now he has those wings. The news is occupied with all the hurricanes and the Mandalay Bay shootings. It's a sad time.

            Hi Jyn,
            I never saw him in concert, but it seemed he was always playing in the background of my life. At the time, Disco was King and it was awful. Along with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty was one of the few "alternative rock" people who were trying to replace some of the Baby Boomer loved groups, who weren't recording much anymore. I am also surprised by the lack of interest on HP, but there is so much going on in the world, maybe that's why. I hope his friends in the music world do a tribute concert.

            My niece just saw Tom Petty in concert in September. She went with her Mom, and she said they both loved it (him), she was devastated when he died so suddenly. so soon after. He struck a chord, that's for sure. Rest in peace Tom Petty.

      I felt really sad.  I have his songs and listened to them over the years.  I've gone to some of his concerts and once stood in line and got an autograph from him and his band.  I never knew him on a personal level.  I'm a fan.  I do feel his concerts provided me great memories and his music was always comforting.  In some very small way he was part of my life and I'll miss him.

   Tom Petty certainly earned his place in rock history and its Hall Of Fame. We now have the ultimate heartbreak, but a lot of solid music.

   I was born in the late sixties, so his music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Another legend is gone, but his music will always be with us.
