if religion has gotten so many people killed in history, why is it still so acceptable?

all the other causes for mass murder have been out casted...

in most of the wars, religion is the basic cause of conflict...with ww1 and ww2 are few exceptions.
But remember the Religion is very important in life and plays a vital role to enhance the morality of the society. Do you think we can attain that morality without religions.

If war has killed so many people in history and present times, why is it acceptable? The Crusades were a series of military campaigns during the time of Medieval England against the Muslims of the Middle East. In 1076, the Muslims had captured  Jerusalem - the most holy of holy places for Christians. Jesus had been born in nearby Bethlehem and Jesus had spent most of his life in Jerusalem. He was crucified on Calvary Hill, also in Jerusalem. There was no more important place on Earth than Jerusalem for a true Christian which is why Christians called Jerusalem the "City of God".

However, Jerusalem was also extremely important for the Muslims as Muhammad, the founder of the Muslim faith, had been there and there was great joy in the Muslim world when Jerusalem was captured. A beautiful dome - called the Dome of the Rock - was built on the rock where Muhammad was said to have sat and prayed and it was so holy that no Muslim was allowed to tread on the rock or touch it when visiting the Dome.

Therefore the Christian fought to get Jerusalem back while the Muslims fought to keep Jerusalem. These wars were to last nearly 200 years.  Now, the Jews and Muslims are fighting over the same land! The Christians are supporting the Jews.
There will always be religion and war! It is unfortunate that people who claim to be loving and peaceful are still fighting isn't it! I do not know what the answer it. I do know that there will be no peace until the anti-christ takes the throne as the master deceiver, and then their will only be peace for a time. Then war will resume again!

    From the Bible-
    James 4:1-3
"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures"

Religion isn't a "thing"- like a park bench or a cherry pie- it is a belief system.  The person behind the religion is the responsible one, for he/she is responsible for what they choose to believe... and then what they do "in the name" of it.  Religion wasn't holding the gun, knife, or bomb- a human hand was.

The logical answer to your question, based on your conclusion, would be to "outcast" the people responsible...but that doesn't seem very practical.  We probably all would be "outcasted" at some point.

For what is war but an escalated fight.  How many of us are guilty of fighting at some point, on some level in our life.  How many have we "killed"-- maybe not physically but perhaps emotionally or spiritually?

Think of how many people fight with those they "love".
Religion is not the guilty party.

Religion is a concept, a thought, an ideology. It has no form that is tangible, organic or inanimate.

Every Religion has and always will be the main cause/motive/refuge for some psycopathic fundamentalist.

But there have been many prominent Atheist mass murderers too.
They all used politics and government in the exact same way that others used Religion.

Most religious people in the modern day world are not that way inclined & pretty harmless.

A Fundamentalist Mind is the real threat to humanity & it can be applied to ALL walks of life.

Ignorance is bliss. The meth addict knows that meth will kill, but he continues in his quest to feel good, for the moment.

Because people don't identify the religion as the 'cause' of the dispute.

I dont think Religion has killed people in history. So called religionists did. As you know from reading the news, the way to get people to fight in a war (that is going to profit your pockets if you are Elite) is to appeal to their sense of religion, patriotism or a common enemy.  The real believers donĀ“t let themselves be deceived by propaganda. The rest bait into it and go to war or send their kids to war to get other people richer. This has been true throughout all human history.  Religion is not the real reason. Greed and money is.

Because there are people that make a lot of money from war.

To benefit from the money they make they have to live so they do not acively engage in any fighting themselves. They need to get other people to do the fighting for them - the people that do the fighting also pay for the war through taxation.

In order to get people to fight one another you have to convince them that they are different from each other. The easiest way to achieve this is to convince both that their version of god is the true version and that the other guy's version is evil.

To atheists this is obvious - we do not fall for the three card trick.

Those that have 'faith', on the other hand, fail to see that it is all a big con: as they have done for thousands of years, and so they go happily marching off to war and when they see children torn limb from limb by explosions they say, 'Oh...it must be the will of god.'

    I ask you.

Yes we can have morality without religion.

Humanism predated all monotheistic religions, as did Buddhism just for a start off.

Monotheistic religions borrowed humanist concepts and gave them a servile focus.

By implication, you're accusing all non-believers of having no morals. How very dare you, sir!

Religion is still acceptable because the mass delusion has not been challenged enough. All reasonable people can be won over, the greater challenge is wresting the religious tool away from powerful organisations and governments, who use it for their own ends.

Do you believe, Hitler, and Gengis Khan, were  Religious leaders ?

I've asked that question many times myself. I'm happy to report that interest in religion has been in decline for several years now and the Christian Faiths are tripping over each other trying to gain recruits.  The Catholic church even meddles in American politics on the border issue.  They want the uneducated migrant workers coming into America because that's where they recruit, with the uneducated and superstitious.  Where are they losing recruits? With the educated!  Simple frightened people are easy prey (pray) for religious recruiters.  Want to abandon this dead end?
Get in touch with your inner core, discover your God core and say goodbye to religion once anf for all,

We do not need religion anymore.  We are the answer to our prayers.

with religion, there is alot of controdictions. that is one of them. to many people refuse to look at it in a negitive way. people wont see it that way and continue to believe its a good thing. people need their cruch for many reasons. if they admit religion is wrong they loose thst cruch, and people are not willing to do that

Religions do not kill people, people kill people and use the religion as a reason.  From my studies of some of the religions traditions, we are supposed to find spiritual enlightenment.

Religion is a great way to get people to follow you into war, when the real reason is some people just want to conquer another set of people to obtain their resources. This is not religion, this is brutal business.

    Best wishes.
