What are your three simple ways to motivate employees?
Most of the times, people think of money as an incentive to make employees perform better. Money is a given. I know that some people really wanted to get an increase. But there could be more ways beyond and above money. What are your suggestions and experiences. Please share with us your three simplest ways to motivate employees to perform well in the workplace.
Three ways to motivate employees:
First, listen to your employees. Listen to their concerns and complaints. Ask for suggestions on how things can work better. Have a meeting to discuss what is working and what is not working and how it can be improved.
Second, praise them for the work they are doing. Compliments go a long way to raise morale in the workplace.
Third, act on the feedback that you get. If they tell you they need improved lunchroom facilities, make every effort to meet their needs (not necessarily their wants).
When employees feel heard, feel important and when they feel they are accomplishing something their self esteem will go up and their production will follow.
Employees and staff motivation is just like big doors that swings on small hinges. Motivating your staff and employees are supposed to be one of the simplest things to do in business if the psychology of staff motivation is properly understood by... read more
In order to motivate someone you first need to find out what makes them tick, what their interests are and how they will best be able to utilize their strengths.
I would say a survey with questions for employers to answer would be the best way to access what the strengths and talents reside for each person. A great book for this topic is called Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham.
This is a good question Jef and i would like to answer you accurately. First of all you have to understand that employees are diverse in terms of their interests, needs, values, cultures, psyche and experiences. This means that you cannot apply a single motivation formula across the board.
To know what can motivate a particular employee you first need to understand that particular person. understanding his or her past and present situation is of critical importance. Ambitions, preferences and values should not be overlooked. It is from here that you can be able to gauge an appropriate way for motivating.
Money can motivate if the person is money hungry. However empirical evidence cautions that this is for a limited period of time because an optimal point is reached when money can cease to be a motivational force (psychologists call it satiation). This shall require you to device another alternative source of motivation. Thus motivation should be best be contemplated as a process and not an event.
Challenge is the second source of motivation that i would like to talk about. Human beings like achievements because it earns them recognition among colleagues, seniors, professionals or stakeholders in the industry. Example, an Executive who steers his firm to exceptionally higher levels can be recognized by other management professionals as well as investors in the sector. When we are recognized we feel happy and more important about ourselves. So if an employee is of this type yearning for recognition then you need to give challenging (but not impossible) tasks upon whose successful completion a form of recognition is accorded. Recognition can be as simple as a public vote of congratulations up to promotions. Challenges can be set in form of performance targets, promotions to bestow increased responsibility and so on. Challenges makes the job exciting. When one overcomes one challenge he becomes eager for another one. Failure to recognize employee achievements is highly demotivating.
Thirdly, make your job exciting. There are several ways in which you can make employees' job exciting like providing new methods (example computers) of work, transfers and job rotations, organizing surprise parties for employees, delegating responsibilities and such.
Thanks Jef i hope you are answered. Be free to ask for more or clarifications.

The first move by an employer is to make a good selection in the personal that is hired.
1.Making an employee feel that his work is important to the success of the company.
2 Designate work that the employee can be successful with accomplishing,a sense of doing an important job
3.Allow employees to make suggestions on how to increase productivity.
4.Introduce a profit sharing plan
5. Consider bonus pay for top employees
6.Consider an employee picnic or some event for all employees and families to get together
7. Don't hesitate to let go any employee who breaks the company 's set of rules of employment
The owners, the boss and upper management are the key to successful companys. Last but not least, good pay and working conditions are a good foundation to start with. Without a profit someone will be losing a job!
