Any advice at which the best spot for writing articles online that give a flat fee is?
You might try Demand Studios. The pay range is between $5 to $20 per article depending on type. You have to apply and be accepted, then each article will go through an editing process before it's published. There are a lot of topics to choose from though (you choose from a list), and they pay on time.
I've looked at their site, and am curious as to how high their expectations/application process is...
Have any first hand experience with them?
I do write for them now. Their application process wasn't horrible. But once you're in, their expectations are high. For small, factual articles (around 100 words) they pay $5. For longer articles (300 to 400 words) they pay $15. But their review process is strict. They don't let garbage or nonsense through. Once you submit an article, an editor will take a look at it. It either gets immediately accepted or you can be asked to do a rewrite. (I've been asked to do a few rewrites, but the changes asked for were minimal.) The editor either accepts the rewrite or rejects it. Too many rejections and you get banned from Demand Studios.
You can easily turn around a couple of hundred dollars a week with them -- as long as your editors don't drag their feet and as long as you choose titles that you already have knowledge of so you don't have to research. You don't have to be a great writer, just a good writer as all of their writing is very factual.
Associated Content and eHow also offer flat payments, but like most companies doing so they only offer this for US residents.
Forgot to add... Demand Studios actually is the one that produces the content for eHow. And any articles accepted by close of business on Wednesday, you will see the money deposited into your PayPal account on that Friday. Always on time.
I don't have time for a detailed reply, but I would say pretty much what lrohner said. I only do a few articles now and then to make extra cash. They are quite strict, but I think that helps keep the crap from getting through. The application process was easy. If you have online specs to show that would look good on your app.

Can anyone tell me why it is so hard for me to write an article, even a 500 word article, when others just breeze right through it.
