It is where you create a post that gets spread around like a virus.  Examples of viral marketing often include making lists, or sharing images. I hope that helps

Viral marketing involves spreading some information from person to person like a virus. Viral marketing makes use of social networking where people recommend to one another what they like. In this manner, the content spreads multi-dimensionally without much cost to the initiator.
to succeed in viral marketing, the content should be of good quality, attractive, interesting and easily distributable.

In a simple example, a lot of YouTube videos have become "viral" in a sense that they spread extremely fast because they are popular. When you have a video with tens of millions of views, you can implement simple marketing techniques either through a service or yourself to reach out to those people who are viewing your video.

A great example would be "Auto Tune The News" on YouTube. These people basically take news videos and edit them into songs and put the extremely popular auto tune effect on the voices of everyone in the video. Autotune basically is a pitch correction software. It is quite funny and since so many people watch their videos on YouTube, they make a lot of their songs available for purchase on iTunes which they make royalties off of.

    Hope that helps!

Viral marketing is a marketing strategy that relies on individuals rather than traditional campaigns to pass along a message to others. It usually refers to marketing on the Internet. Viral marketing is so named because of the tendency for messages to use "hosts" to spread themselves rapidly, like a biological virus.
