Identity Theft?
how many of you are Victims of Identity Theft? How to get rid of Identity Theft? and how we can secure our privacy to not to get involve in all this?
We once saw people going through our rubbish outside our house and from then on, we invested in a shredder. Now, anything with a name and address on is either filed or shredded.
As far as the internet is concerned, I am a firm believer in not giving my information out to anyone I don't readily recognise.
Many hoax emails come through stating that they're part of a large organisation and supply a GMail or Yahoo email address. These I don't trust at all.
If applying for a job, the most you should have to send in the first instance is a CV and if the email is GMail or Yahoo, I don't even do that. You should never give your bank or building society info at this stage.
If buying stuff on the internet, don't use anything other than a credit card or Visa Debit as otherwise you have no protection and ensure that when using any payment method, ensure the server is secure.
Those I hope are the basics and should keep you out of trouble.
Identity theft is a form of fraud in which someone pretends to be someone else by assuming that person's identity, typically in order to access resources or obtain credit and other benefits in that person's name.
Identity theft is one of the leading crimes these days and can lead to a lot of stress and hassle for its victim.
Some of the things that can be kept in mind are enlisted below:
1. Whenever you visit an ATM slot or make a purchase at a retail store, you need to be extremely careful about who may be observing you from behind.
2. Closely inspect an ATM machine before using it. Using a technique known as ATM skimming, thieves sometimes attach their own card-reading devices to a card-swiping slot on an ATM machine to steal your card information.
3. You should be very careful about the kind of websites that you use online. There are a host of fraudulent websites on the internet.
4. It has been observed that credit cards that have not been used for long periods of time possibly a year or more are more likely to be the targets for identity thieves.
5. Use unique passwords for each website you visit, including your favorite shopping site and online bank account.
6. Thoroughly review all your credit card and bank statements when you receive them.
7. Monitor your credit history. If someone has stolen personal information, such as your Social Security number, it can be used to apply for credit cards in your name.
8. Always use antivirus on your computer and never respond to any emails when you are not sure of the sender, especially if it requires you to fill in personal information.
Hi Trafford. Securing quarterly credit reports is a good start. I've never been a victim, myself, but know others who have. Dumpster diving is on the rise. It's a good idea not to have your full name on your checks, as well as removing the actual street number, and shredding anything with your personal information.

As of January 1st, The Red Flag Rules became law with mandatory compliance. These laws are a response to the growing identity theft epidemic and what can only be called lax information security measures employed by businesses to protect personal information. There were somewhere in the...
