how can acne be treated?

Acne is not a trivial complaint. It can be the source of considerable emotional distress. But there is a range of treatment options to tackle the problem.
Home treatment
It's important to keep spot-prone areas clean, so wash the affected area twice a day with an unperfumed cleanser. Antibacterial face washes and soaps specifically for greasy skins are also available. However, the skin needs a certain amount of oil to maintain its natural condition, so avoid aggressive washing with strong soaps.
Also try to avoid the temptation to pick at spots: over-enthusiastic squeezing can cause scarring. Acne tends to be less of a problem in the summertime. This may be due to the sunshine helping to dry the skin. No home treatments for acne will work immediately. It can take weeks, if not months, for significant effects to be noticeable.

Treatment of Acne
Doctors suggest the following to clear up mild acne:
• Get a nonprescription acne medicine and apply regularly. Over-the-counter drugs containing sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide, are all effective for treating mild acne.
• Use ordinary hygiene on affected areas, washing your face once or twice daily with your usual soap or cleanser. Deodorant soaps may be used, but they are of no particular value for acne.
• Do not scrub or use a loofa. Friction makes acne worse.
• Do not pick or squeeze. This may worsen scarring.
If home treatments do not work, acne can be treated effectively by your dermatologist. Options may include:
• Topical treatments such as retinoids (tretinoin, tazarotene, or adapalene) or antibiotics (benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin)
• Oral antibiotics
• Hormonal medications like oral contraceptives
I actually read a while back that the best thing to do when you have acne is to spread a clean towel over your pillow each night to sleep on. Don't use the same one every night use a clean towel and I guess keep up with washing your face with a cleanser every day and you should see a big difference.
Here are some ideas that worked for me. I was a serious acne sufferer until my mid twenties. Not just a kid with pimples. The only method that truly worked for me was Accutane. It made a HUGE difference in my life. I know that there are many horror stories with Accutane but geez it actually did work!
Talk about making your skin tight and changing my life. Accutane did that for me in only 6 months. It worked in the first few weeks.
Other then that I would agree in changing your pillow cover often and washing your face daily with ice water to close pours Drink more water and less soda..
Mild acne cases usually respond well to over the counter topical preparations containing salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and tea tree oil (a natural remedy). For acne that resists topical treatment, prescription medications containing Retin A or an antibiotic, or a course of oral antibiotic treatment may be effective. For women, oral contraceptives are sometimes good at controlling acne. Accutane (Isotretinoin), a powerful "last resort" medication for severe acne, often gives very good results but has many serious side effects.
Severe acne that does not respond to the above mentioned treatments can often be treated with the intervention of a cosmetic dermatologist. A treatment plan consisting of some oral antibiotics, microdermabrasion, and light or laser-based therapies usually gives excellent results.
