   What’s my favorite Bible verse?  It’ Genesis 1:1.  It’s an introduction that rouses interest this very firs verse, because of its simplicity.  Think of it—that the physical heavens and the earth had a beginning, but God was there to create it.  Since he has no beginning, he lives forever and ever.  (Re 10:6)
   
   No person called the spirit was moving invisibly over the waters that covered the entire globe.  That spirit—not a person—was God’s impersonal active force.  No one was there to see it, that is no human viewed whatever manifestation God’s active force made.  There were, though, unseen spirit persons who observed and, as stated in   (Job 38:7)  “When the morning stars joyfully cried out together, and all the sons of God began shouting in applause.”
   
   From this first mention of God’s active force we see that God used it for a beneficial purpose.  Since he has greater wisdom, power, and justice than any other of mankind put together, it was not purposeless that   God’s active force was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters.
   
   Jehovah existed alone prior to creation. There is no being prior to his existence. No explanation is offered as to his existence, he is there, and that profound truth confronts us as an ultimate mystery. That is why Isaiah later affirms:
   
        “That you may understand,  (his witnesses) that I am the same one. Before me there was no God formed, after me there continued to be none.”  (Isa 43:10)

   The Bible in itself is life changing.  But to give you an answer to the question at hand, I would say that one of the scriptures that has been an inspiration in my life has been - Matthew 17:20 (KJV).  It reads:
   
   "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

   Isaiah 54 is my life chapter.  I have not yet memorized it but it is reflection of my life as in when I wasn't walking with Him to His calling me back into fellowship. Upon return I looked back at the path of destruction I had made and He spoke to me in this portion of scripture about His redemptive mercy and forgiveness and the promise of restoration.  I cling to it this day. vs, 8 "In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you says the Lord your redeemer"  Your question has inspired me to want to memorize it considering I cling to it to this day.

   I think the defining verse in my life would be Psalm 119:105.
   
   "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
   
   I've found that in my life, I never feel closer to God and more right with myself than when I'm spending time every day prayerfully reading the Bible. I don't mean this in a dogmatic sense. I don't think that if you don't read your Bible every day you aren't a good Christian. I've simply found, that for my personal walk, that I connect to God in a very real way by reading through Scripture.
