Why do I have a variety of passions, and not just an ultimate one?

   Why do I have a variety of passions, and not just an ultimate one?
   
   Throughout my life, and still today I have so many interests & abilities I struggle to focus on developing any of them to my satisfaction...could someone tell me why this may be? Im in my early thirties and Im really starting to regard my talents more of a burden. It would be great to success in a least one of them!

   Many people find themselves passionate about many things, and like yourself, can't nail a particular one.
   
   This is good. it shows that you are a very adaptable person not being "set" in your ways. You, more than likely, are a versatile person.
   
   If you have been given talents, use them. All of them. Talents are a gift. If you were not up to handling the gift, it would not have been given.
   
   With that said, use those talents. If you plan, you can use the talents to do many good things.
   
   Talent, is ability. You are able to do. I am sure, you are stronger in one of your talents than you are in the others. This is your dominiate talent. Develop it, and combine it with your outher talents and put those talents to use.
   
   Don't fret. Just simply think on these things, and give thanks for the talents.
   
   30s are easy.  We do a lot of growing in these years.

   It's quite normal to have varied interest.
   However if you are looking to focus on any one thing you enjoy doing in order to earn a living then you may want to let "the market dictate" which area you should focus on.
   
   My guess is there is one thing you do which garners more praise from the outside world then the others. Listen to the universe. :-)

   I am at a similar position, and I am grateful that I have diversified interests, it actually hones my judgement and skill sets effectively. While I understand being a jack of all trades, but master of nothing may sometime prove to be a bit pathetic, I do believe that it is this kind of diversity that allows me to become the person I am today.
   
   And I realize that the older I grew, the more interests I have. I used to be a computer-only guy, but now I realize how much fun life can be!

   I've had the same 'problem' many years as a dabbler of many things - reading, writing, music, travel, films, food, technology etc. etc. So rather than view this as a curse I've taken to celebrating it as a blessing. I feel liberated as I grow older, I can have conversations with a variety of people about a variety of subjects. In my professional life these varied interests actually help me to connect better with my clients and have a great rapport.
   
   Trouble is it all takes a lot of time and I always feel like I am missing out on stuff- Perhaps coming to the hubpages is a manifestation of this. I love being able to write about anything that pleases , interests me. Although I feel quite lucky that I also have a steady professional life. If you look back at scholars in 18th and 19th century they were all into everything. They's a name for it  - 'Polymath.' Like Newton and Da Vinci.
   
   So enjoy your passions - it means you have a rich, energetic brain- celebrate them- maybe you have very high standards for yourself and feel dissatisfied because of that. The measure of 'success' should be our own.

   Because, like me, you are not fanatical about anything. In fact, fanaticism in any form really scares you.  Once you start to become fanatical about anything, you pull back and refocus your energy into other interests.  There is nothing wrong with that because you have the self-satisfaction of knowing that you do the things you do well enough to meet your standards. Your desire to exceed that does not fit with the trade off which requires you to become fanatical about a particular subject.  I wonder what Freud would think of us? LOL! WB

   I like to think that I was created, as I am, not for me, but, for a God who has need of me. Therefore, I am the way that I am, not by accident, but, to fullfill the purpose of something more magnificent than I. You are who you are and just the way you are, because it pleases Him. He knows why you are you. He made you so, the reason belongs to Him and not to us! What wonder will He do with us, once we thank Him for who we are.

   I find that there is nothing wrong about having a variety of tastes and there is nothing great about focusing on one.
   
   If you concentrate on a single passion,
   
   - you are going to miss the joy of indulgence in your other passions
   - you are likely to get overloaded with the thoughts of the single passion
   - you are likely to get boredom of over indulgence in a single thing at some point of time
   - "success" is a fictitious thing. It is a moving target. What is "your" success may not be "adequately big" for someone else (or to yourself at a later state)

    You go girl.  You will settle down a bit as you age.  There must be something that is more interesting to you that you feel you have the most talent for doing.
    
    You may think you are failing if you don't do everything but you aren't.  And maybe you haven't really found the thing you really like yet.  You don't have to prove yourself to anyone but you so don't worry about impressing others.  Just do what feels best for you.
    
    Remember the goal isn't the thing... it's the trip getting there because when you arrive you don't get to stay.
    
    Stop worrying about tomorrow and spend more time on today.

    Because, like a diamond, we are with many facets.  It is the varied interests that make us well rounded individuals.  Without this variety, we would be at home with, or appeal to a very select few.
    
    Develop to your best in each category.  Some catergories  will likely show  more 'natural talent'.   
    
    Just for examples.......
    
    You may have an interest in writing, cooking, sewing, pottery.
    
    Your efforts in cooking may show more consistently positive results than pottery.  You should develop and encourage cooking, yet still allow some pottery work as a hobby.
    
    You may have a natural talent for writing and like to sew, where your talents are not as developed.  So, write to your hearts content, and stick to simple sewing patterns. 
    
    You need not strive to be a best selling author, have a cooking show, sell custom made pottery and have fame in fashion design to be yourself and enjoy your days.
    
    Variety is the spice of life.  In your 30's, you likely have a lot left to discover about yourself.  Perhaps, you are rearing children, and your passions have been put on hold.
    
    I am a big fan of letting life unfold.......

    I have this same problem!  I just decided to come up with my favorite thing most and GO FOR IT.  See, I love to read!  So I put up a paid site with wordpress and I just write what ever on reading, books reviews, books, anything.  It's day three and I love it and the Quote page is awesome!  Best of all I don't sell anything.  Best wishes.  GO FOR ONE anyone of them.

    How can anyone consider their talents a burden.  Your talents as well as your positive expressions represent you.  Negatively expressing yourself is also you but why focus on negative expression when you can overcome that with the talents that you possess.  It's obvious you are negatively focused or involved somehow.  Whether it be an individual that is currently in your life, an environment, situation, whatever it is you need to remove yourself from it because if you indeed possess so many talents you would want them to blossom, whether you concentrate on 1 of them or all of them.  The good thing about being "so talented" is if you put one gift on the back burning another comes to the fore front.  There is a constant need for your talents, blessing, and crafts to be nurtured and exercised.  It comes with the territory.
