Fellow writers - do you think of the plot first or do your characters arrive in your head first?
I've done both but I am curious about the creative process in others.
I have been writing for last 4 years and i have written so many stories but never completed any of them. Characters always comes in my mind before making any kind of a plot or any thing.
I have come up with several screenplay ideas. Usually, there is a plot or concept that comes to me first. Then I go from there. I've not had much luck completing most of them, but the story I have currently should be shooting this Spring.
I use both methods, I think they bounce off of each other, a character pops into my head and I have to know the why of him, or an idea pops in and I need to know who will tell the story.
For me the idea for the story comes first. When I have a basic understanding of what the plot will possibly be then..... I "discover" the characters.
I listen to music and look at art. The rhythm, chord progressions, and mood of the music creates visual images that in turn lead to characters and plot sequence. Same with art or, more precisely, digitized art. I couple this with real-life events that are happening. For example, a digitized image of a woman with a gun coupled with a song, "Bargrooves: Cosmopolitan," created a plot about a sicaria -- or female Mexican cartel assassain -- who turned against her bloodthirsty employers after they wanted her to kill the very young and naive female police chief of a tough Mexican border town. There is such a police chief, Marisol Garcia, 20 years old, who took the job after everybody else was killed. Strange stuff.
Concept first (I wouldn't call it a plot - yet) then closely behind come the characters. The "plot" follows. I think another writing tip that is under-rated is, you need to "like" your story, your concept, your characters. If you care about them and what is happening to them your characters will help you carve out a cool plot and keep you writing...
Its been many years but it was a mixture of both... I just allow things to flow and just be.. there are no rules with creativity...

This is pretty fun! How do you fellow writers choose your hub topics?

I've been an active user of HP for over 6 years. Over that time, my income would increase until, suddenly, my "reads" would take a hit and my (modest) income would take a drop. This has happened a number of times, as you all know. And, I dutifully went through my articles and modified,...

What is your opinion of all the Hubs that are written as tributes to other Hubbers?I see a lot of Hubs written thanking followers and just tributes in general to them. I think that is a wonderful idea, but just wonder how they show up in Google search engines.
