   Poetry is simply not everyone's cup of tea. Its a bit like reading Shakespeare without having an understanding of the English language of that day. In order to embrace poetry, you must first attempt a verse or two yourself. It may be easy or difficult but either way, the insight gained will enhance your next poetry reading experience. Perhaps to embrace, perchance to dream...

   There are those who do not like Bach, Shakespear, Scotch or a fine cigar. I suppose what matters, is that I do. If seeing the Mona Lisa does nothing for you, whatever I say will probably not change your perspective. Poetry has its followers and has since the dawn of time. Those of us who write it do so because it will not stay within us and those of us who read it, because we can not stay away from it. I understand those who can, because there are things which beg me, turn away. What poetry does for me, is perhaps what sitting on a bench does for someone else. Something speaks to every man. So long as he listens, we are very much the same!

   Hi there Jay2Jay
   When I saw your question here tonight, I felt compelled to write to you and share my story. I am from Australia.
   
   I started writing poetry early January last year.
   My interest in poetry was something that I will honestly say came out of the blue. At first, it was for therapeutic reasons mainly as I have a terminal illness which causes me a lot of severe  pain and I don't get much sleep as a result of this.
   I wrote my first poem because of a beautiful rose called "Just Joey".
   One day I was walking up my garden path and I noticed the way the roses, in particular this one, were swaying in the breeze and the fragrance was something that was so beautiful.
   I started writing down what was in my head at the time It felt like the poem wrote itself for I just started to write and didn't stop until the last line.
   
   I decided to throw caution to the wind and see what the other hubbers thought about my poem. It wasn't long before the first comment appeared and then more arrived. To my amazement, the result was different to what I had expected.
   This is where I got my inspiration.
   If you have something that means so much to you or someone, then take my advice write about it, then read it over a few times, then submit to poetry section.
   
   There will always be people in the poetry section who will read it. Most importantly, they are not going to judge nor criticise you. However, they may offer some advice to help you decide whether or not you have the talent and determination to go on with your poetry writing.
   
   Since I started writing poetry I have written at least eighty now. I recently wrote a poem called "The Enchanted Garden" and the comments I received from reviews of people I have met on a Poetry Website, were very favourable. A lot of people even suggested that it would be good in a book or even as a book with illustrations. So, I sent it to a Publishing Company. I am happy to say that, not only did they love it, but it is being published and due to be out just before or around Easter time. This is something that I had never dreamed of happening,especially now that I am so ill.
   
   If you wanted inspiration Jay2Jay, how much better could you get than from someone who is in this condition. I send you my best  wishes and wish you luck in your endeavour to find out whether you have the talent to be a successful poet. God Bless from  Pam (Beautybabe)x

   Your story is amazing and so inspirational. You've inspired me to push harder than I am pushing right now. Regardless of who you are, your health level, and what you can do, we all have that potential in us to thrive.
   
   Thank you for sharing your story with me. It meant a lot and it can move mountains not only for me but for others as well. I hope that god looks after you and strengthen you each day that comes by.

   I don't think you really can say anything. I know I can't find the beauty in, say, fishing, but there are millions and millions of people who will talk on and on about the sport and I will tune out no matter what they say. I'm interested to know why it's particularly important to you. I guess it can be hurtful when you're writing and the people closest to you don't care about it.
