If God commanded you to sacrifice your family, how would you respond and react?

I know this was written in the Bible, and the way things are now compared to the olden times are very much different. I'm curious the point of view of people living in the present.

If there was a God, wouldn't it be ridiculous for him to make such a command? In answer to your question though, I would respond with "God... your being silly... my family will always come first".

First off, exactly what do you mean by sacrificing, and how are you applying it to family.

Jesus, who is God, tells us that if we choose to be Christian and follow His teachings as a Christian we must be willing to turn away from anyone who refuses to know God as we know God, so as not to become corrupted by them and this would include family and friends. Notice I say willing to.

As for me there is nothing, and nobody in this world that is more important or holds more value than God.

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in. God speaks to us through our minds and hearts.

But if God is speaking through your pet dog telling you to kill your family - then I would seek professional help.

Some idiots think that they are doing God's work by protesting at funerals - protesting or picketing outside the funeral of an innocent victim is despicable. There is a special charcoal briquette in hell for parents who teach kids to think God in that way

I believe God is good all the time and all good comes from God. I must ask you what you mean by sacrifice. If you mean abandon to become a missionary for God I understand. I would follow whatever God wants me to do from the holy inspirations he sets in my heart.
In today's day and age most people do not hear God. If you tell someone you heard God's voice speaking to you most people would label you with some sort of mental illness.
However I don't ever think God would ever tell someone to murder a person in the name of sacrifice because one of His commandments is "thou shall not kill".
The ultimate sacrifice was Jesus murdered on the cross. Jesus was the most holy sacrifice that God accepted to redeem His sinful children. Since that time there has no longer been a need to create a blood sacrifice for God.
I hope my answer helps you a bit. Cheers smile

    Hi guys,

When I mean sacrifice, it's similar to God commanding Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Nice to see different point of views.

Thanks for joining the topic smile

Whether you believe in God or only trust in science, you would almost certainly doubt someone claiming God had asked them to do something evil. But what if there were more to it than what we can see? read more

well, if you're relating this question to the parable of Abraham and isaac; then, my answer would be yes.

but that would scare the s*&t out of me.

Such type of command can never be given  to ordinary people like me and you, and when it is given it comes to HIS messengers who enjoy special qualities which HE gave to them for particular purposes. The faith of ordinary people can never reach that of messengers and they are not expected to respond with the same degree of faith given to the messengers,

That's a pretty nasty command.  That would be proof enough I'm dealing with a psychopath.

Given He's stricken them all with serious if not fatal illnesses, I would tell Him to wait a few months, the impatient bastard. It's not like he's in a freaking hurry. We've been waiting for the second coming for how long now?

As in blood sacrifice, sorry, no.  I would probably think that the voice I was hearing was not God, but Satan and resist or ignore it, or hand myself over to the psych ward as someone else has suggested.

To sacrifice them for the greater good, in terms or time or allowing them to experience their life, or giving a child up for adoption to a better home, those kinds of sacrifices I would make.

In 2011? To be honest with you... I would ask God to to go to bed and have a sleep at least for 8 hours because He never went to bed and He needs rest...
