Though a programmer I have an offer to see how much I can contribute to the SEO for this Enterprise company. I know they have a good range of products, and even know the solid reputation (Ist hand) of the financial software platform quite well.
I got the offer because I kept my own business on the first page of Google for 3 years.
I know enough to understand why I stayed on the front page, and realize that my niche was a walkover by comparison to this.
I have already spotted a few common mistakes in their SEO, but have little idea of what they may need off page in this industry.
Should I try? or is it all too hard?
Thanks. Ern.
Ern I think you should grasp this with both hands. What have you got to loose? If nothing it will be a new challenge for you and you can go learn something new for all us newbies who have no idea.
Do you want to do it? I suppose if you took it then there would be less Earnest here on hubpages and that would suck. Plus, do you really want the stress?
I suppose that in my mind and with my work ethic, that working for someone else is too stressful. But if you want to take it then take it but don't forget about us here.
No harm in giving it a shot.
It would be worse later on regreting or wondering 'what if?
Its natural to feel aprehensive ,but dwell on the things you do know and the rest deal with when ya come to it.
"Nothing ventured ,nothing gained"
The best of luck!
Thinks youll be great, remember the guys doing it now ,they all had to start somewhere...
Hey thanks Eaglekiwi! That's encouraging. I dunno how I feel about it yet, I just got the offer tonight, but felt sure I would hear from a hubber if I posted.
Go for it, if you don't in years to come you will look back and regret not trying.
Nah! I don't do regret! I may be an old geezer, but I move too fast for regret.
Your hardly old and like your style on No Regrets !
Thanks for that BC! Nice of you to say so, and I knew you would get it.
Earnest, from what you wrote, I can't see the flaws? You clearly know your profession ... but there must be some if you're asking for opinions?
What are they?
*take it earnest ... take it lol*
There is a hell of a lot to know dear green one. bit scary for me at the moment. If only I knew what I don't know about it! Now that would help!
Ahhhh - then due consideration is called for. Consider well then Earnest ... and make the decision that's best for your good self
I can feel some worried feeling that you might not reach their expectation but Earnest, they trust you and maybe it's about time to prove that you are indeed worthy of the said trust.
I got one thing to tell you:
"You must give it a try for a true soldier does not admit defeat before the battle" ~Helen Keller
I've been doing a bit of off line seo work for some local companies and I can tell you that it is a whole lot easier than doing seo for national and international companies. Google loves local, the more local the better and they rank a whole lot quicker with less backlinking.
Go take a look at the number of backlinks their top competitors have in Yahoo site explorer, and compare that to the number that they already have. That will give you a pretty good idea of the magnitude of the job you are signing up to do.
Do it if you think you can do it.
If you have an doubt about your abilities of doing SEO then don't try it. Some SEO efforts can go wrong and the results can be opposite. That might hurt your repute as a programmer too. I know this because my SEO efforts have gone opposite on a site.
Just a suggestion!
Im so happy to hear this for you, sure came searching for a well deserved hubber. Have to say no one came learned from the womb my mom used to say that. You will learn your way around in SEO's changing market. Best of luck and never stop believing in yourself.
I'm still considering, but they have offered to let me ask them a few questions, so I will know more soon I hope. Thanks for your support Sandra.
I think this is a risk assessment - How comfortable are you with the risk in doing well vs. the perception of not doing well. It sounds like something you are capable of so the only question is - What will the outcome be if you do not do well? I say go for it.
Nice logic mtsio98, I will consider my feelings a little more deeply due to your kind observations.
Shuffle Those Slippers there Earnest... I knew there was a reason you needed them for your B/D.
Good on ya cobber!
Thanks mate! I may decide to shuffle both brain cells for a month or however long.
Maybe SEO Expert Kerala can help you !
here is an example of what he can do
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/19864
I hope it helps
Give me a yell if you want to talk about this Earnest.
Cheers,
Eric G.
OK thank you Eric, I will.
SweetiePie with SEO it may not be any better than any of those!
We know you will.... Go hard on that.. you will create synergy & then 2 becomes 4, 4 - 8, 8 - 16 etc. You know what they say.. Don't spend your principal, make it work for you. So by the time you get to 16.. it would be smart to sub the work on a 60/40 split while you still have a sole on ya slippers
Could you do me a favour at some time Earnest & tell me what you think (as an Anzac) about this http://hubpages.com/t/b7bb9
I just want some feed back from your side of the ditch before I do the second?? Would really appreciate it mate... Cheers
Not an expert on our involvement in WW1 but I read it, and it sounds right to me. I liked the hub, although it is not my favorite subject it kept interest and it flows well. Good work I reckon!

Thanks mate, but different market.
Of course it is ! Such an... It was only a joke go to the end of the thread
Thank you very much Earnest... Not my favourite subject either, but an important one I believe. Take care & good luck with your contract cobber.
Congratulations on whatever you decide . At least you are getting employment offers off the web, and all I get are e romance solicitations, scam lotteries, and people from China asking me to buy jewelry.
You know... if you put all those things together as one.. they would look pretty good
Congratulations for the job offer Earnest! I would say go for it but only you can tell if you will be able to handle this job or not. Whatever you decide, we support you 100% .

One thing that I've noticed in my traffic stats is that one particular hub about a particular acoustic guitar - seems to be doing better than other hubs about what I would think would be guitars that are more sought after. So I looked at the hub that is doing so well, and tried to figure out why...

What is on page SEO and how can it be done for hubs I write?I know well about off page seo, but little about on page seo, can my fellow hubbers please tell me about it? Is it just keyword spreading throughout the article or is it more than keywords.

No theory, I want to know practically what course of action can really increase the traffic to my article i.e. what actions really SEO the articles? Fellow hubbers share your experience.

I hope this is in the right forum. I am trying to figure out what went wrong with my hub. The second day I was on the first page of google. I realized that I hadn't put the right title, I meant to change it before I published it and had forgot. so I went back and change the title....

I heard many times about promoting your hub, and making it SEO friendly or SEO optimized. How to do that exactly? And what to do?

I'm officially now my first month into HubPages and loving it; however, I'd like to share with the community some of the observations I've made in the first 30 days. The OpportunityLet me start by saying that I think there is plenty of opportunity for writers here, even post-panda, to become...
