What is the best way to ensure that the person you are dating online is who he/she claims to be?
I don't think there is a way to really know. Unless you are a computer genius and know ways to figure out if someone is real or fake, then it's pretty much impossible to figure out where the predators are. Just have to be extremely careful.
The only way to know if anyone is who they claim to be is by talking with them, spending time with them, and observing them. Before you can "trust" someone they have to (demonstrate) honesty and integrity. You have to be willing to ask some tough questions when the time is appropriate. Only after getting their responses are you in a position to decide whether to believe them or not.
Trust like respect has to be (earned)!
If you find yourself becoming serious about someone you can always pay for a background search online such as http://www.pipl.com/ (free), http://www.intelius.com (FEE) , or http://www.peoplefinders.com (FEE) and http://www.zabasearch.com (free)
Most of these sites have options to view public records which will provide anything on marriages, divorces, bankruptsy, property liens, judgements, (background checks) will show any felonies, Aliases...etc
However the least expensive way is to (trust your inner guide). If you have some doubts don't ignore them!
"The purpose of the mind is to protect the heart."
If something doesn't "feel" right to you then it's probably not "right" for you.
Best of luck!
It is not possible to verify physical claims is meet them in person. Other claims relating to personal information will take time of getting to know the person to confirm if they have been honest with you. Don't believe anything until you know it to be true when doing the online thing. Ok to hope that they are being truthful but don't be a sucker.
Talk to them on webcam face to face, so you can see what they look like. Ensure you're able to contact them via telephone when they're at home (The person won't be able to speak freely if they're living with a spouse) - it doesn't have to be their home phone number but a mobile phone will do - call at a random time and see what kind of reaction you get. Ask them questions about their employer (And look up the address online to ensure it's a real place, ask them questions about their work etc). Beward of online scams such as the Nigerian scams, Google more about scams and you'll see some of the more common senario's. Stop all contact if the person asks you for money.
Who knows exactly the best way to find whether the one you are dating is truthful... No one I guess because people would not be cheated and scammed if they know it! but I think you can draw your conclusion based on the ff: If you talk to him on screen watch for the eyes, the eyes will never betray you (b) the voice whether trembling or erratic (c) body movement, hands twisting (d) or trying to evade some personal questions (e) the time he chooses to talk with you (and when he refuses to turn on the webcam or is only pointing at one direction, I guess he is trying to hide something...

Why do people that don't believe in God, respond to questions about God?Don't get me wrong. I respect and appreciate every response, even if they disagree. That is everyone's right. But I usually don't waste time and energy in things that I don't believe in. Sure, I don't believe in Santa and still...
