Hows the answer "real myth"?  I wondered about it but I am satisfied thinking that it is just a calendar reset.

Oh something will happen, if only because so many believe it will and so a large amount of panic will ensue. People do ridiculous things when they are scared and I'm sure there will be riots/looting or something in various places around the world. As for the apocalypse, I'm sure that won't happen. This is just the biggest hyped apocalypse theory and it will pass just like all the others

dec., 2012?  i didn't get the memo.  i thought oct. 15 or 21 was the date.
in any case, i think we should all chip in and get me a big gift to celebrate.  after all, what else are you going to do with your assets in jan.,2013?
if the end doesn't occur, of course, the gift will be returned, minus shipping and handling.

Having lost my crystal ball, changed from tea leaves to tea bags, broken my scrying dish. I'd guess it's all hype.

I wonder as History Channel has been plugging the Mayan calendar and Nostradamus ideas as predictions of the end of the world for a few years now. Do they plan to run a schedule on December 22nd 2012.

Also I am not clear on which part of December 21 the cataclysm might occur, being in California, I'm going to be annoyed if the moment the date changes in mid Pacific the world end's that means I will be cheated of almost a day!  LOL

I don't think the world will end or anything, but i do believe that something will happen. Mayan calenders were based upon major astrological events. The end of their most significant calender identifies that something epic will happen. I remember hearing that on 2012's winter solstice, the sun will be at the center of our galaxy and on the solar systems equatorial plane. Because our galaxy is a spiral, being light years away at that, what exactly is at it's center is unknown. It must be something with a gravitation pull powerful enough to sustain the galaxy. A black hole is suspected to be there, but there isn't much evidence to support this claim. Whatever is there, it will be VERY close to the sun. Hopefully Nothing will happen though.

My birthday is in December.  Is there a specific day designated?  I want to know when to plan my party.  I want to go out with a bang.  Is the Hale Bop comet coming around again?

Of course this isn't real.  December will pass, just like January, February.............etc.

Possibly real... depends on your perception of the end of the world... will the world suddenly go kerboom? Will every person suddenly drop dead as thought they're toys out of battery power? Or is the end of the world simply a way of saying that things will change in a big way?

I am not worried either way, if the world is scheduled to end in 2012, oh well, that is not in any of our control. Why exhaust valuable energy with those thought when we could focus on making the world better now.

Well considering all the prophecies so far, the World would have ended about 10 or 20 times...Every 4-5 years is the end of the World.I think it is some sort of way for higher powers to control people, give them something to fear so in return they rely on those powers.

A lot of things seem that way, but I couldn't say for sure. The Bible states that the end will come for non-believers. But the ones who have given their hearts to God will live in peace for eternity on the new earth or renewed earth. I'm going on memory here so don't quote me. The book of Revelations isn't easy to decipher. But the fact remains whether anything happens in our lifetime or not, there's not much you can do. Just make sure your heart is with God and he'll take care of you.
