Did Jesus defend people who were being condemned by religious hypocrites (Matthew 23)
Would you defend someone who was being told he will go to hell if he does not believe certain bible doctrines? Are you a defender of the poor in spirit? Normally these questions get deleted by moderators. I hope I am lucky and that they leave it up because it is an important question.
I think in a way many people who are interested in human rights do this. I believe people have their own right to choose their own religion, and other types of things like sexual orientation, etc. But I do think some things people choose to be or do is wrong. What I defend though is their right to choose but if I think something is wrong or immoral though and that person asks me what I think of their lifestyle I will be completely honest if I don't agree with it.
If you truly believe in God you would have to defend the people who believe that God is the God of everything. Could you refuse to defend someone that you knew was innocent because you was afraid maybe the accusers would turn against you? It seems to be a fairly common thing to do in these days but could you really live with yourself if you turned your back on the innocent party? Jesus could not and would not !
Jesus spoke out openly "Against" the hypocrites of his time especially those who were considered as Rabbi, or Pharisee, who would set themselves above the others teaching to do as I say, not as I do. They would preach the law of Moses but not live it themselves.
He defended the woman who was an adulterer from those who were about to stone her for her sin. The men who wanted to stone her were also sinners, hence they were hypocrites. Mary Magdalene was another such person that Jesus defended. She was the sinner who washed Jesus' feet with her tears, dried them with her hair and poured expensive ointments on them as well. Judas Iscariot objected to the waste of such expensive ointment saying that it could have been sold and given to the poor. However the Gospel tells us that Judas was a thief and cared nothing for the poor. Jesus hypothetically defended the tax collector who beat his chest begging God on his knees to have mercy on him, a sinner, against the Pharisee who stood by him, gloating to God for being better than this wretched sinner, since he observed every aspect of the Law, and the other guy did not (holier than thou). There are many such examples in the Gospel. Jesus really didn't like hypocrites. He referred to them as snakes and brood of vipers.
well defense of a person, is not better than helping that person realize they are standing on the word and encourage that nay sayers words are vain

Is God a vengeful God? If I don't believe, am I condemned to 'burn'?If I lead a life where I am selfless, constantly help people, give away my money and live in a 'Christian' way, will I still be condemned to 'burn' if I simply don't believe in God?

Possible? Interesting? Shortest thread ever?I was raised in a conservative Christian family, but no longer refer to myself as a Christian. I am agnostic, meaning I live in a world full of possibilities; many questions few answers.I am interested in learning how people who know...

Why religious people grieve so much about death and are 'scared to death' of dying if, when they die, the'll be with God forever? What's wrong with dying anyway? Your born condemned to death...Is it not?

I have enjoyed many "debates" with folks here on the Hub, but in the long run, its seems those that believe still believe and those that don't still don't. Why is this?Could it be, Christians, that we allow the nay-sayers to have their say while we are trying to not be...

For all the religious people out there, show your arguments: Why should one stop being an atheist?

For Christians ONLY.. Do you believe it is ok to have beliefs you cannot defend with scripture ?Many that profess Christianity have beliefs that they have taken as their own, yet they cannot provide scriptural proof of how they apply to Christianity. Do you believe a Christian should...
