What changes can I make to make life more interesting?

I'm bored with school, work, and my environment in general. I'm 21 just turned in July and ever since I've felt this need to do something different!! besides going to sch and working every week. The same old routine. What generally comes to mind for me is, Traveling somewhere far away from home, try being as independent as possible and experience life as I want. Steps to take please.

I think you have the right idea about trying new things.  Make a list of things you've never done, places you want to go, restaurants you want to eat at, etc.  They don't all have to be expensive.  Then go do them.  Especially if you're a student, audit a class in something you are interested in - rock climbing, yoga, etc.

The key is to find things you love doing and are passionate about to mix into your routine.  Even better, if you can find a great passion and learn to make a career out of it, you'll be far and away ahead of most people and life, work, happiness and your routine will be very interesting for you!

At your age, I would definitely recommend traveling. It's nice and safer if you have a travel partner. Figure out your budget. Go online or look at books to figure out what places interest you. Research cost effective options like hostels and train passes to plan a trip. If you are a student, you can get some great deals. Have tons of fun! The world is your oyster.

I would plan a working trip around the world while you can ! Come and see the Kimberleys in Australia !  Read my hubs about working while traveling and saving money on holidays  . save up for an around the world ticket and go for it . Make sure you have travel insurance .
When you plan your trip see if there are hubbers there you can meet & maybe stay with for a small donation if they have room and you get on !
Go for it ! There is so much out there for you to experience.

It seems like you have a lot of commitments in your hometown.  You do not want to abandon those important things in your life.  If your job is boring or unsatisfactory, apply to new ones that interest you!  Maybe you will find something out there you never knew you would like to do.  School is important.  Make it interesting by picking paper topics you like.  Traveling is great, but it may not be in your budget.  Maybe something cheap like camping could make a big difference in your life.  I also suggest picking up a new hobby like learning an instrument/language, making jewelry, graphic design...or write hubs!  Hope this helps.

If you are an American citizen, I have a deal for you.  Join the military.  Not only will you get to see our country, you will get to see the world.  It's not all blood and guts, but of course that is a factor.  Measure yourself in basic training.  Stretch your legs in deployment.

By the way, save your money, do well and after four years you will have plenty of  cash to buy a car or for a downpayment for a house.  Uncle Sam is the most generous relative you will ever have.  He will even pay for you to go to college.

Talk to some guys just back from Iraq or Afghanistan.  They have had it as rough as it gets and yet a high percentage of them volunteer to go back !!!!   Yes, the United States has an all volunteer military and don't be fooled.  Our military is excellent.  It is stocked with some of the finest individuals on this planet.

By the way, we even take non citizens into our Armed Forces.  Amazing but true.

Get to a recruiter soon.  There's one near you.
