   Does hearing about killings at christmas effect you more?
   
   when you hear about people being killed on Christmas day , does it catch your attention or bother you more then it would on other days?

   Remembering that Christmas isn't a holiday for every religion, I am not surprised. Human Nature has many flaws and one is that we seem to be the only species that kills without good reason and inflicts pain to hurt and for our own entertainment!
   
   And as a Animal Rescuer the killing is actually especially bad around the holidays. More people 'get rid of' their animals around the holidays than any other time of the year. I guess they don't fit in one's Christmas plans when people want to sit in warm houses around tables full of food and with their family. Shelter personal wants to have that family time too, shelters close for several days, everything is euthanized to  allow for that family time. And I am not blaming the shelter personal but those that threw out their unwanted animals.
   
   Christmas kind of lost its light for me!
   
   Humans have long ago gave it a bad name! We as a once Christian Nation take God out of everything and wonder why we fail so badly! Now it's just about the presents we get and returning them the day after at the Superstore if we didn't like them! Pathetic!

   Christmas, for many, has become an exercise in excessive consumerism.  Black Friday, hyped by the media,as Christmas bargain day, usually ends with injuries, in the frantic, barbaric, often violent fight to attain the bargain object of desire. This year there was a newsworthy macing, fighting and even gun-fire over athletic shoes. Law enforcement is part of every Black Friday.
   
   I find it ironic that those who do not practice kindness, compassion or "love thy neighbor the rest of the year become sentimental and family oriented at Christmas. They try on pseudo fellowship for size, but fall short with a mad dash to the shopping malls, exhibiting hostility on the roadways, aggressiveness in crowds,and equate spending with love.
   
   I am not surprised that murders and crime increase during Christmas.  The frantic state of mind whipped up by advertising, the media and unrealistic expectations creates or exacerbates depression and all forms of mental illness.
   
   Violence against people and animals is never justified or acceptable to me.  I am saddened no matter when it occurs.  Those families who experience devastating loss through violence against a family member or friend will never enjoy their loved ones, at Christmas, birthdays or ever. There is no time-frame that ever makes taking an innocent life less tragic than another.

   No, the date and time doesn't matter to me- the fact that someone has lost their life, or people have lost lives is horrendous on any day of the year.

   People who throw the term "excessive consumerism" when it comes to Christmas only make me wonder about their own family life/childhood. Surprise, we live in a capitalistic society. Retailers are going to capitalize on whatever they can, whenever we can. We, as consumers, will respond.
   
   The biggest gathering of the year in my family is on Christmas. We do give gifts, generally things we wouldn't usually buy for ourselves, and appreciate them. We also spend the entire evening poking fun at each other, watching football, and have a huge dinner with about 15-20 people.
   So, I say to Amy - I think you are just apathetic and are using this question as a way to jab at something you seem to have a problem with.
   
   
   That said, my grandfather died 9 days before Christmas last year. It hurt when he died, hurt more when he wasn't there for Christmas. I feel compassion for the people who lose their loved ones on Christmas, I know from experience that it hurts even more than it would otherwise. That's what I call a "double whammy". So yes, it affects me more.

   I think I get a little more sensitive when a death occurs around a holiday. I guess I automatically start thinking about families getting together and how the loss of a loved one would be terribly difficult to cope with. Killings that occur any other time of the year are no easier to take, but for me it holidays seem to pack a bigger punch.

   Yes, it really bothers me on why bigots and intolerant evil seekers keep on murdering Christians more so on Christmas day. I don't know why the other side of the fence kill people in the name of their religion and their God.

   A  father kills his child
   
   A mother sits, " spaced out" under the influence of drugs , while her 'boyfriend", rapes her daughter
   
   
   A foster parent, burns the genitals of a preschooler for wetting the bed
   
   
   An angry teen shoots his grandfather over a bowl of soup
   
   
   
   The headlines never cease..............
   
   Does the DAY matter?
   
   
   Either we respect life or we do not.................the headlines indicate that far too many of us do not.
   
   
   To the abused child, the raped Grandmother.................the beaten wife......... the man who gave his life in defense of his family..............does the day matter?
   
   
   
   The shame falls on those of us with a conscience......but it is not us, who are committing the crimes...............
   
   
   Crime is  crime...........no matter the day on the calendar.
   
   
   It    IS a sad testimony, that there is not a single day of the year, when we can not, as citizens of a community live peacefully..............any day.........not just Christmas day.
   
   If one can not respect another's very life, they can not respect God.   If you can not respect God, why would you be expected to respect Christmas?
   
   
   I do not like the fact that it is this way, but it is, just the same.

   A young lad was stabbed to death yesterday, and i couldnt help thinking 'He would have probably been enjoying christmas with his family yesterday' and now he is dead. So sad, but this happens every day of the year, it just makes you think more about the victim at this time of year.
