If there was a time period classified as Medieval where are we now?
It seems as if we have entered a phase of extremism,
Brink of a revolution or rise of fascism. The conditions are ideal. Economical crisis, unemployment rate increasing, people discontent...
Actually, unemployment is down, the economy is slowly improving and people are discontent, but when aren't they. We as American's have become a "what have you done for me lately" society. Oh, and lazy to some extent, so revolution I find a strong word because it requires work and loss of life and Americans don't stay motivated too long. Remember, the Mosque, they lost interest after a few weeks, Arizona immigration- that lost muster and has anyone heard anything more from the Tea Party? We are in a time period of Division. Division that has lead us to a stagnant existance.
I truly believe we have lapsed into, or are lapsing into, another "Dark Age". Although technology is increasing, literature and high culture are in spiraling decline. As we continually make greater scientific discoveries, the religious zealots are quick to refute them. Religious faith is taking the place of reason and understanding. Individual rights and freedoms and the rule of common law are being stripped away. Think about it: What would happen if this tenuous economy of ours were to collapse, as it nearly did three years ago? What would happen if the governments in the US went bankrupt? I see police and military strongmen taking over administrative control in an emergency (theirs are the only government programs not being seriously cut). With dictators in charge, will science, commerce, common law, or the economy get back on track?--probably not. After that, all it would take is one good solar flare from our sun to render our satellites and technology useless and turn us back into cavemen who burn books to keep warm. If we lost our technology, we won't step back into the 18th or 19th Centuries. We wouldn't even know how to do that. I think the majority would go straight to bashing things with stones and wearing animal furs.
Old Empresario and Maxoxam41, I thank both of you for comment. I was beginning to think making unfounded observations.

Why are we angry and discontent in America. Perhaps heading towards a revolution in our own country? We are a country of sheep. We believe what we are told. We blindly follow are leaders, and believe they know what they are doing. We often don't think for ourselves. We are lied too. We are divided....
