Hmmm, when shopping I take my rucksack, when picking fresh veg I don't use the little plastic bags I just put them in the basket, all glass, metals, paper and cardboard gets recycled. Not currently having a car I have to put plastics into the skip, in turn those skips go to recycling centres or China.

I have better things to do with my time than pick up rubbish left by the anti social.  I recycle my own household rubbish.

I usually just throw it away, but if the option is there to recycle it I will.

So do you mean by 'all the garbage you pick up' to mean as one shops and goes abut daily chores or do you mean to actually pick up the rubbish of others?
On either slant, I would be very conscious of recycling everything. We have a very good recycling center near us that can put everything - you name it - into some sort of recycling format.
As a way to challenge myself with a new format on an old hobby, I am preparing to gather old clothes and reuse them as the basis for patchwork but with a difference, putting the final product on canvas. So instead of paint I will use bits of old clothes as the colors. A bit of a challenge as I'm not a very good artist - more of a craft hobbyist. I've re-used egg-boxes, plastic cups etc in all sorts of ways before dumping into the recycling center.
And finally like swb64, I try to buy food that is unwrapped or not too heavily wrapped.
    Good question.

I'm really into recycling. I take reusable bags to the store and recycle what I can here at home. Oklahoma doesn't have a way to recycle cardboard so that is about the only thing I don't recycle.

In my area you choose your own trash service to haul garbage away.  I chose one that has recycle bins...and I pay a little bit more but I believe it is worth it.  One bin is divided in half.  Half is for plastic and the other half is for paper.  I have a 2nd can that is for all the other garbage.  Then our trash service has pick up on Wed. for the recyle bin.

About twice a month, we take paper, glass, cans and boxes to the local recycling transfer station, which also accepts electronic equipment, old oil and clothes.

We are a mobile phone recycling company in UK - Pragvis.
The majority of the mobile phones that we receive can be reused and are exported to some of the world’s poorest and most deprived countries to help their people, families and businesses communicate more effectively and cheaper.

I seperate my trash as I throw it away.  One can for paper, one for plastic and one for everything else.  Our everything else trash is picked up once a week and we haul our re-cycle trash to the bins also once a week.  We also re-cycle batteries and electronics. Everyone should think about the environment.

I would love to recycle but it is not as popular in India as it is in the west. I have however been collecting used batteries for cant recall how long. Maybe someday I will find out where to give them so that they can be recycled or disposed off properly.

Right from my school days we were introduced with the concept of different colored dust bins and even today I make it a point I follow the same concept.

I recycle glass, plastics and cardboard boxes.  If I pick something up like litter on the ground I just put it in the closest container whether it be a trash can or recycle bin.

I strategically put everything in different boxes/bags and I take them to their designated recycling centers.
