   When you first joined hubpages. Did you ever get discouraged, because?
   
   When you first joined hubpages, we're you at all shocked or surprised to see fellow hubbers with impressive numbers like 1000+ hubs written? Did seeing such numbers at first, discourage you any, motivate you, or pose itself to you as a sort of challenge. 
   
   (Please be as honest as possible, & no matter how long you've been a member.)

   Yes I was shocked.  I can't remember where my author score started but all those authors in the nineties seemed an impossible target.  and then when I realised some of them had written hundreds of pages and had thousands of followers!!
   
   I found it daunting, slightly scary.  Fortunately, I came with a fairly thick skin from years of playing forum games, and wasn't too put off or over respectful of these people. Ok, so they had been here a long time and 'owned' the place.  So what?
   
   My reason for coming was to write, and maybe earn some money.  Nothing else mattered, or matters, apart from trying my best, improving and maybe one day... making that money that I hoped for.

   I'd rather have twenty awesome hubs than a thousand POS spun garbage hubs. - the number of hubs isn't important.
   
   Trust me, we've had people here with a huge number of hubs, and every last one of them was a ten minute piece of work - there's nothing impressive about that at all.
   
   What motivates me is....money.  I want to be able to sit here at home and basically work for myself.  I'm pleased with the Hubpages platform, and very pleased when Hubpages makes money off of my work - as I'm using THEIR platform and web site.
   
   It's mutually beneficial and that is exactly how it should be.
   
   Not that this is the only site that I write on, mind you, this is just the best one for most things.
   
   Another statistic that impresses me is the million views state and accolade - do you realize that there's a person here on site with thirteen million views?  I'm not even sure that that is the highest number.  I'd like to see a list of hubbers with most views.
   
   Still, even views doesn't necessarily translate into cash, but it's certainly a huge factor in earnings.
   
   Also, I fully endorse virtually everything said anywhere by Mark Ewbie.  It would be a sad day in comedy, indeed, should I ever become his target!!!!

   I haven't been on hubpages long, but I was definitely discouraged at first and sometimes feel like I have zero ideas for Hubs. I am making progress, though!  I am impressed by the hub bets with 1000's of followers. Most of them have really useful ideas, IMO. Otherwise, why follow them?

   I was impressed with what people here could accomplish.  So much so, it gave me motivation to give it a try.  I was writing an article a day for awhile, but I've dropped off and am taking a break from the more commercial writing.  Writing here, and witnessing what folks can do, has also encouraged me to go on and author two blogs, one which is beginning to take off.  Writing quality material, however, should always precede quantity.  To those folks cranking out all those quality articles, you have my utmost respect.

   I have been discouraged because I am unable to link one of my websites to any of my hubs. Still waiting on admin to get back to me on that.
   
   I only have 9 hubs right now, and am unsure of what to write about next. I have been racking my brain for days, hoping something will come to me.
   
   On the plus side, I have made a little money, less than $1 in 4 days.

   I was not amazed to see hubbers rack up 100+ hubs after being at it for a long enough time, for example, 2 years. People who seem to draw traffic like a magnet are talented in many specific areas. I get a little frustrated because I have not developed the skills of getting traffic and attracting readers. There seems to be something that I do not quite get, and I am not sue what it is. I see a lot of great topics with no traffic, and this frustrates me. Some are over a year old! Where are these hundreds of millons of people who surf the internet? When I read that tags have been discontinued, I wonder why I did not know, and I wonder if anything else has been discontinued. It seems that my hubs are not really "out there."
   
   
   These are good hubber qualities that I have notice in fellow hubbers:
   
   -People who show their faces, or someone's face, interest more people.
   
   -Hubbers who show themselves friendly, positive, and interesting, and write interesting hubs attract more readers.
   
   -Hubbers who understand and apply all of HubPages guidelines and tips on doing well seem to do better.
   
   -Also, hubbers who have a lot of knowledge about computers, internet, resarch, getting traffic, etc. tend to do better.
   
   -Hubbers who do not offend easily and can handle offensive commenters tend to attract and keep people.
   
   -Responding to commenters truthfuly, honestly, courteously, and professionally, instead of getting emotional and too involved with certain commenters, seem to be a good approach.
   
   -An author's ability to guide his/her hub well by keeping commenters focused on the topic and steering commenters away from heated or wasteful confrontations   is a good skill.
   
   -A polite hubber who treats all fairly is a winner.
   People with these qualities seem to move fast! I am trying to hone my own skills a little better.

      You have answered my question with some powerful informative info, and it is all relevant to being a good hubber, the whole attraction thing is funny yes it is indeed, I like to think of it as a Casino, and those who know which machines are hot hit!

    I was discouraged when I first started, because I only wrote 2 hubs and expected to make money from them. After that I waited about 6 months and started writing again. Reading about the success of others motivated me to get going. After about 70 hubs, I started making some real money. It has only improved since then. Just keep writing.

    Not really, it's joining a race mid-point.  Your finish line is not the same as theirs.
    
    Also, my personal hubscore shot up to the high 80s and low 90s almost immediately.  It hasn't gone above 94 yet, but hasn't gone below 90 in about a week.
    
    I think it's all about pushing your friends to retweet or like your stuff on social networks and not being afraid to email links to your contacts.

    To be honest, it was discouraging at first to see hubbers with perfect 100 author scores.  I never thought I could make that and I never have.  But, that doesn’t matter.  I have become a better since being here.  Now, I don’t even look at other people’s scores or how many hubs they have, but rather I look at the quality of what is written.  For me it has become about improving.  Writing about topics I care about has made me think, grow, get stronger, and dig harder.  Be yourself.  Write what you know, what you feel, what matters to you, and you will go far.  Can any of us really ask for more?  Other than money that is, some people do this for a living.  That’s great, and I wish them all the success in the world, but that’s not all Hubpages is about.  It’s about always striving to improve, to share, to learn and to keep challenging ourselves.

    I joined hubpages recently, an hour ago to be exact. A friend of mine have started writing here 3 weeks ago and thats how i found out about hubpages. to be honest, i dunno if i will be able to write my first hub! i thought i have a lot of things to write about but after reading articles here all those ideas disappeared! if i can write my first hub ( is that what you call it?? ), i will be happy. i dont really care about numbers.

    Nice question.
    I have always been wondering how hubbers manage to write so many hubs in so short a while (1000+ hubs in 4 years is almost a hub a day).And I try to rationalise by thinking maybe this is their only job, so they have just to keep on writing. Then again I think, maybe they are so knowledgeable that they do not have to reasearch for their topic.
    
    Still I admire their capacity to keep writing great hubs ,day in and day out, which is indeed commendable. One thing I note is that, though theydo not make full use of all the capsules their hubs have a high hub score and they have a really high hubber score. Maybe, they have a huge traffic and maybe, they interact in the hubpages community a lot and yes, follow the hubpages guide very closely.
    
    So now to answer your question. Yes, I admire hubbers who have written impressive number of good hubs. Motivated, yes. Challenged, yes. Never discouraged me because I see from my personal writings, though I never was a writer and am still not,that my hub presentation has improved and I seem to write better and I think it's all due to reading and following many good hubbers.
    
    So I am thankful to all these hubbers.

    I was discouraged by the amount of hubbers that were making a lot of money especially since I had such high hopes in making some money right away. It is a little intimidating to think about all the success and all that you have to do to achieve such high rankings.
    
    Now that I know that it takes a little while to really see things come together I am more patient.

    I never felt depressed over the accomplishments of others. What I keep getting depressed about is my inability to make any money using the system.
    
    I keep doing what the instructions tell me to do and I read advice from Hubbers that seem to be doing well with the system, but I haven't seen a single cent.
    
    Now I am even sadder about it because I am unemployed again and really could use the income.
    
    I usually look to other Hubbers for ideas of what I can accomplish if I stick with my writing and sometimes for ideas about what to write.
    
    It's hard to keep a positive attitude sometimes when there seems to be no activity on your Hubs, but sooner or later an audience will form.

    I am not discouraged about the accomplishments of others.  It is not a competition, and we can all be winners.  The fact that these people have reached high HubScores, and high numbers of hubs and views, shows me what my aim should be.
    
    I do get discouraged because I would prefer to get my earnings increase faster instead of slower.  My earnings go up and down day by day instead of following a steady upwards progression, and it is not a good day when it goes down. 
    
    It does take time to accumulate 1000+ hubs, but it really is encouraging to see the number of published hubs go up day by day. That number doesn't go down, unless I choose to unpublish a hub.  I would rather build up slowly writing quality hubs than speeding along and winding up with a thousand low quality hubs.

    No, I was not demotivated due to others achievements. This incurs jealousy and the pressure in trying to measure up. I just got with it when I could. I love writing but occasionally I get fed up with it or get the 'block'. However, I return to enjoy and it is the most effective way for me to communicate my thoughts and the netted lucid ideas.

    I was discouraged because I don't know what I was doing. I didn't read the guidelines and tutorial. I left Hubpages for a year and I came back, repaired all my hubs, deleted some and started all over again. Now though I'm still trying hard but at least I learned from my mistake not to be discourage easily.
