Do you think it should be legal for a church/school to take minors out of state without their phones

It's a pretty simple question, do you agree that churches and schools should be allowed to take minors out of state without allowing them to take their cell phones?  If it were your child, would you allow it?

When I was in elementary, middle and high school, there were no such things as cell phones, and we went out of state for school field trips.  So did everyone else I knew, and so did all their parents before them.  And it was all legal then.

Why would it be illegal to do so now?

Very great point relache, but with todays higher crime rates, I personally don't believe it is safe.  The world is a very different place than it was when cell phones didn't exist.  I personally would not let my child go.  However, I still value your opinion.

I think they need to have a meeting and let the parents have input. There is so much danger these days An option might be to restrict their use if they take the phones for safety purposes. It is a tough question with so much dependency on phones.

Out of state? No, they shouldn't. It's a security measure. Out of the country yes. Because most some services do not work there.

I agree with relache - we didn't have cell phones when I was in school, and I don't think crime is all that much higher now than it was then.  I'm not sure what would be illegal about it, since all field trips require written parent or guardian permission.  It all depends on who is supervising the fieldtrip and if you trust them.  If I trusted the chaperone, I would let either of my teenagers go.

By the way, I've been mugged four times, twice in broad daylight in a public place, and once at gunpoint.  All four muggings took place before the invention of the cell phone.
