What should I do, see, feel, hear or touch before the world comes to an end?
The 21st Dec 2012 they say the world is coming to an end. Apart from really believing this, I would love to know, what I should really do, see, feel, hear, touch or experience before we all vanish from this earth. Something you experienced that could make my life a better one, leaving this earth with no regrets at all:-) Surprise me!
The Earth will still be alive and well by then I'm sure - however I believe we should experience something new and try new things every day. Taste new foods, buy new fabric and make pillows, repaint or redecorate an area of your home and make it into a sanctuary. Visit an art museum and get inspired. Go to a nursing home and hold the hand of someone lonely and talk to him/her. Hike great nature trails in the spring and watch the Earth spring back into life - there are wonderful things to experience every day if you open your eyes to them. If you have extra money travel to a new location and learn about the people/cultural traditions there. Go on a vision quest and get in touch with your spirit. Go on a treasure hunt and discover new trinkets/treasures for your home or garden. Smile at strangers and make their day. Take dollar bills and write a little abundance blessing on them and tuck them into paper towel holders in public bathrooms or into books, store items etc. anywhere public where people will find them. Don't wait around for them to find them do this and walk away knowing that your actions are going to make someone smile and of course - random acts of kindness, be the type of person you can look back on and be proud of.
Hug a child, watch the sunrise, listen to the birds sing, plant a tree and feel the soil under your fingertips, and just breathe it all in and embrace it all! There is no better or worse place than this earth - it all depends on your outlook!
By the way, I don't believe it's going to end just yet either - but we do all need to be asking ourselves exactly what you just asked! A great question!
Christin, very good suggestions.
I would just add the practice of forgiveness to the list. This applies to everyone regardless of your bucket list or end-of-the-world belief. Practicing forgiveness is a powerful healing and cleansing process. The benefits are endless. I have even heard of people experiencing physical healing from unloading their heart of the burdens of unresolved issues.
A close cousin to forgiveness is gratitude. Practice gratitude throughout all aspects of your life. Express gratitude for the people in your life, for the events in your life, for the abundance in your life. Apply this to everything, the good and the bad. Express gratitude for the flat tire that made you late for work. It may have saved you from a traffic accident. Express gratitude for your illness, for without it you may not have taken the time to rest and care for your body.
I would also like to add that the significance of Dec 21, 2012 has been grossly overstated in the negative. If you listen to the Mayan scholars they state quite clearly that the end date is the end of a cycle, not the end of the world as we know it. What we don't know is what the beginning of the next cycle will look like. It may be no different from Dec 20. We just don't know. Anyone who is predicting a dooms day is ignoring the facts and using the opportunity to spread fear, possibly for commercial gain.
Regardless, I hope we all make the most of everyday.
these are all things i have done myself mind you-skydive for starters. i have taken (and paid for them) over 300 people skydiving. not a single disappointment! several people were also afraid of step ladder type heights, i was so proud of them. go to sturgis-in august harley's and bikes galore, food, and seriously great music and much of it for free! it has gone from a biker thing to practically a family event. bahamas-powerboat adventures. Nigel takes you from the Atalntis Hotel for a 45 minute boat ride out to a private island with 1,000 Hp engine on his cigarette boat. you feed iguanas then head to the island for a day of relaxing, eating, snorkeling, and for many, the best day in their lives. (so they told me-have taken over 60 people on this journey) while cutting up fresh caught fish, the rays will come and you can feed them by hand. some days, sharks only come. not only did i swim with them that day, with a 5ft barracuda within striking range the whole time, and a 10ft lemon shark, i picked on of the 7ft reef sharks up with my bare hands, after we fed them of course. on the way home you can fly to a racetrack that hosts andretti school of driving and take 10-20 laps in a formula or stock race car. since i had a very fast car i set the "record" for that track of students and averaged 177 mph around. fun, but my car is faster. in the fall you can head to new england, i would stop in NYC and enjoy central park, and at the north end enjoy a meal at one of the worlds top places-Jean Jorge. tell them i sent you, they will take extra great care of you. watch the fall colors in NE, there is nothing like it. settle in with the family and enjoy the holidays, and then on dec 22nd, watch the movie 2012 and have a nice chuckle.
You should jump in the rain puddles, see the stars at night where there are no other lights to block out their brilliance, listen to the world as it comes alive in the morning, touch someone with a kind word, or an act of kindness, feel the love of your friends and family and give it back tenfold, and thank God everyday that you have the senses to do all of this.
If the world is coming to an end, I'm grabbing a bottle of scotch and listening to Tchaikovsky's symphony No. 5 in E minor. The other questions will work themselves out at that point.
Although I know many people believe that the date 12/21/2012 is just an end of a cycle, we must forget that the Mayans also noted the end of each cycle with some great destruction. If you think about it most cycles must come to an end in some negative manner because out of the ashes rises the phoenix, the hero, the brilliant ideas. For example, the American Revolutionary war, the South Africa Apartheid, Civil Rights, the Holocaust which spread the awareness of Genocide and how to not turn a blind eye to it.
Anyway, approaching the end to an era, what I would do is everything that makes it that time of the century. Check out an ipad, get on a plane to somewhere rare and exotic, touch people physically, mentally and spiritually. Make everything about you, make it about someone else, live and let live but experience the deep and step into the shallow. Pretty much, you do whatever you see fit, pleasure is not a consequence of happiness but a removal of discomfort.
Don't worry about it! The world is not going to end, but, I'll play anyway. I would sit somewhere with a good view, such as a ski slope or a tropical beach and smoke a Cohiba Cubana with a good Cognac and friends.

Ok... lets play a game. Someone will write a word and the next person will post the first word that comes to their mind, then so on and so forth... for example I type the word ear and I think of the word sound -- the next person will post whatever comes to their mind when they think of sound,...
