Why is it important for children to read?
Most children seem to find reading boring and often try to avoid it. What are the reasons we should encourage children to read and how do we convince them of the importance of reading?
It is important for children to read for numerous reasons. In order for them to be successful in our world today, they must be able to read well. read more
I was taught from an early age that if you can read - you can do anything. Reading means literacy and literacy hopefully leads to intelligent thought and ability to learn and reason. Kids who can read well have a striking advantage over those who cannot. Unfortunately in the age of texts and tweets I see so many young adults who cannot spell or even write a coherent sentence. We definitely need to push reading more. Readers get ahead in life.
I recently wrote a Hub related to this issue entitled "Top 10 Ways to Encourage Children to Read." The tips explain why it is important for them to do so. If you would like to read it, you can find it at:

Reading gives wings to their imaginations, which is a great skill to have in any field. It allows them to dream without boundaries, which is the first step to success. It lets them travel unknown places, meet strange people and know about world cultures without leaving the comfort of their homes. Reading expands horizons for them to conquer when they grow up.
You really should read lawdoctorlee's hub on "Top 10 Ways to Encourage Children to Read". It really does provide a great insight into ways to help children become interested in reading books.
Reading is one of the most important things a child can do. They imitate their parents so parents should make it a habit of reading frequently themselves. I wrote an article on this subject that gives reasons why reading at home is the most important homework. Feel free to check it out! http://jsmatthew.hubpages.com/hub/This- … II-Reading
