Does anyone know how to control the summary text generated by Google when it crawls a hub?
Does anyone know how to control the summary text generated by Google, Yahoo, Bing, when they crawl a hub? It's certainly not taken from the summary capsule that is provided in the Hub authoring tools.
it differs depending on the search engine. If you search a few of your hubs in google, it will show different variable results. I have some hubs that do show the summery capsule, and some that don't.
Google themselves will tell you that they will decide what to use. It may or may not be from the meta tags. See http://support.google.com/webmasters/bi … swer=35624
What you are referring to is called the Google Snippet and is also called the Meta Description Tag. For a short video explaining how Google selects the wording for the snippet, see: http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/015452.html
For individual Hubs and for your profile page, Hub pages does not provide a means for you to enter the Meta Description Tag and, you are right, the 'Summary' feature will not be picked up by search engines.
But you can create your own Meta Description Tag by manipulating the text in the first few sentences of you profile and/or your Hub. Write these sentences exactly as you would write the Summary on a Hub. Limit the text to 157 characters.
If you search on Google for "Writer Fox", my Hubpages profile should be the first listing on the SERP and you will see that the Google Snippet is exactly what I wrote as the introduction to my profile.
There are times when Google will not use your selected text for the Google Snippet. This occurs when Google finds other text on your webpage that more specifically answers the search query, and you cannot control this.
For more information on writing an effective Meta Description Tag/ Google Snippet, see my Hub "What is SEO?" and select IV – 3 (SEO Meta Tags) from the Table of Contents.

How do you increase the snippet Google takes for posts in Wordpress? In search results, on google for example, the snippet or summary which appears under the post heading is only half a line or so for some of my Wordpress posts. Is there a way this can be altered?

I have a fairly old article which doesn't rank for the first four words from it's title in the first 130 SERP results ("What causes electric shocks"), however there are no other articles with those words at the beginning of the title. Ubersuggest says that there's low competition for the...

A few weeks ago there was an issue with the wrong Google Authorship photos appearing in SERPs (i.e. Marcy's avatar showed up in the snippet for melbel's Hub). It seems to me, that ever since that issue was resolved, no Google Authorship photos show up any longer for any Hubbers. My authorship is...

I am looking for some advice. I am trying to improve the quality of my hubs old and new. As part of this, I have been going through them, taking a snippet from the beginning of the hub, pasting it in "..." to Google search. This gives me one way of telling if my hub has been copied....
