Bigamy - what about the kids?
I was watching a documentary about bigamy and it was really sad, but it didn't mention all that much about the kids from different marriages - there were four wives all with children to this same man. So, would these poor kids from all these marriages be declared illegitmate? If so, seems very unfair on the wives, but the children in particular!
Yes, I would also like to hear more facts on how the children are affected by this type of marriage or lifestyle. I guess some would argue that at least they have a father figure. How do you handle family issues and the intimacy between your mom and dad? That would be the mind boggler. Great question and will be interesting to see what posts reveal.
Have you ever seen the show Sister Wives? It shows the life of a polygamous man with four wives and like 16 kids, all from the different wives. And from what I saw, all the children accepted their brothers and sisters as true siblings. They grew up this way, so I'm not sure it really has any affect on them, since it's all they've ever known. Taking a child from a monogamous relationship and throwing them into a polygamous one I think would have very harsh consequences. I assume polygamous kids feel their family is the norm since that is how they grew up. They don't see their children as illegitimate, even though we do. I know that isn't the question though..
In bigamy, I would assume it would only become a problem when the spouses found out about each other. I think it would take a lot of psychological therapy to get both the mothers and the children through the issue. I'm sure the children would feel just as betrayed as the wives. It's a very interesting question, and I too look forward to the answers.
Hi Daughter of Maat - I haven't seen the show that you spoke about - sounds very interesting and I will have a look out for it. Many thanks for your interesting answer.
Hi teaches12345 - an interesting response as well and I hope we do have more respondents. But I might just put this onto the forums to see if any more answers come forward.
Many thanks to both of you!
True story. A judge had two wives. When wife 1 found out ,she divorced him. He stayed with wife 2.and 5 kids Some of children from both were accepting, others not. It is a sad story, but he and wife 2 were very much in love.
