Why do we spring clean instead of winter clean?
Don't we spend more time in the house in the winter? Wouldn't we want to clean before we lock down?
I believe that "spring cleaning" is a left over term from an era when there wasn't any electricity and people used candles and oil lamps. These gave off soot which settled onto walls and other surfaces. "Spring cleaning" cleared that away.
Well I actually do both, but during the winter a lot of dust and debris do seem do accumulate, not to mention mud ground into the carpeting during the rainy months.
When spring finally arrives the days are brighter and you can see all those cobwebs in the corner. The warm days just make you want to throw open the doors and windows and air the place out. Doing a deep cleaning in the spring just feels like you're getting a fresh start.
Spring--Because the house seems stale after being closed up all winter with little fresh air circulating - wood smoke or dust and grime from the furnace. Spring comes and you can throw open the doors and windows and clean it all out. Or if you are lucky, or wealthy, you can hire it done!

What are your top five spring cleaning tasks?I'm getting ready to make my list and get started here soon. I usually wipe down door tops, clean baseboards, take down and clean curtains, clean mini blinds and clean windows.

What Spring cleaning tasks are most important?I tend to clean all the curtains and bedding and test the smoke detectors. I also start to prepare the garden area for when it warms enough to plant. Are there other household tasks that should be done every Spring that are important?
