Great question . . . but it begs more questions.
'It's mine, it's mine,' screams the toddler refusing to share his tomatoes with his friends.
'Share them, share them,' begs the mother, anxious to bring up a generous child.
But as each year passes, Mum has to introduce her toddler to the thought that some things are permissible to own, possess and not share.
Next time the now rich child drives through a puddle in his Rolls and sprays you with mucky water, think of the confused and screaming child within who has been taught to be both generous and selfish. And then hand him back his five dollars when it slips from his pocket.
Dishonesty is not measured in degrees. $5 or $5 million, dishonesty cannot be justified. it is wrong to steal irrespective of the value of the object or the amount of money stolen.
As peeples said, they are both equally dishonest, but the $5 is probably more critical to the victim which implies, to me, a coldness in a person beyond simple theft.
both was an act of dishonesty, the amount is irrelevant

Stealing is immoral, right? But what if stealing was the only way to feed a starving child?

Who is more dishonest? Why or Why not?Are poor people more dishonest attempting to get ahead or are more rich people dishonest in attempting to remain or grow their riches?

Okay, here is a scenario. You are taking a walk on a side-walk and there is an object next to the side-walk. Is it stealing to pick that object up? The object is irrelevant. In this case it was just a toy, that was probably worth five dollars. I had a gut feeling it was just dropped by a garage...
