   There are over 206 bones in the adult human skeleton, a number which varies between individuals and with age – newborn babies have over 270 bones. some of which fuse together into a longitudinal axis.the Axial skeleton, to which the Appendicular skeleton is attached.
   
   The upright posture of humans is maintained by the Axial skeleton. It consists of the 80 bones along the central axis of the human body. It is composed of six parts; the human skull (22 bones and 7 associated bones), the ossicles of the middle ear, the hyoid bone of the throat, the rib cage  (12 pairs of ribs and the sternum)  & the vertebral column (26 bones). 
   
   The appendicular skeleton (126 bones) is formed by the pectoral girdles (4), the upper limbs (60), the pelvic girdle (2), and the lower limbs (60).
   The axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton together form the complete skeleton.

   There are more than 200 bones in the human skeleton.
   
   Bones are a mixture of inorganic, mineral matter, such as phosphate of lime which give hardness, and organic, animal matter which promotes growth, strength and resilience. Some bones have marrow inside, where red and white corpuscles are produced. The bones in a baby are largely cartilage or gristle at first. They gradually ossify, or turn to bone, in the middle and then towards either end. As the child gets older, the ends of the bones close together. When the living tissue in the bones stops growing, so does the person.
   
   Water inside the bones tends to dry out as people get older, thus making the bones more brittle.
