   Clive Barker, for allowing the Horror genre to live on in mordern day. Famous for his direction of the four Hellraiser films, Barker also wrote novels such as the Hellbound Heart, Mister B. Gone, and some fantasy novels for teens and children alike. His use of the Biblical Hell is fascinating, and originality is shown everywhere in his works always.

   I really enjoy Stephen King.
   
   I find his writing style draws me in and keeps me going throughout the book.  I try to read his older stuff first as I find it's his best work.  My only complaint to any of his stories is that he rarely can end them properly.  Whether this is a byproduct of the reader enjoying the story too much or whether it's because we just expect more is difficult to say.
   
   In any event, I can usually enjoy a good King novel - especially when he gets us to fear something that is usually quite innocent.

   I also like J.R. Ward, however her last book didn't measure up to expectations.  My favorite authors lately are James Rollins, Lincoln Child and Elizabeth Peters. Rollins for his action/adventure, Child for his excellent science fiction and Peters for her humorous Amelia Peabody mystery series.

   J.R.R. Tolkien with The Lord of the Rings.  He has good characters, engaging plot, and plenty of suspense in a well written format.

   Leo Tolstoy. His writings appeal both to your emotions, intellect, and spirituality. Although I only read translated versions of him, I find his stories inspirational.
   
   Ernest Hemingway has a very unconventional writing style. He is journalistic, but his books are pregnant in meaning. Try reading his short stories and The Sun Also Rises to find out what im saying.
