I was 47 and my wife 44 when our son was born, our childhood and young adulthood past. All we had was future and our son keeps his parents young.  We would trade him for the outside world, but we accept him as our world.

What changed?  Everything.  We were married for 11 years when our first child was born and people told me - oh your life is going to change.  I resented that and swore my life would not change.

Once she was here, everything changed but it was okay because I wanted everything to change at that point.  My focus was the well-being of this child-period.  So things change but you adapt and because as a parent we are so in love with our kids, we want the changes.

The one thing I missed, oddly enough, is reading a magazine.  I loved getting a good magazine and lingering over each and every page.  That was a thing of the past for many months after my daughter came into the world.

I could not go out with my friends or go to the movies with my boyfriend anymore. I had to grow up and that was also what I wanted. After I had my first child I didn't miss anything of my life before. I felt it was time to change my lifestyle. I was ready for a child. Now I can't imagine my life without our two children!

My life was upside down, in a good way! I never ever looked back. Sure, in early days I missed my showers and sleep but all in all it was so worthy. Becoming a mother is a dramatic change and cannot be comprehended if you are not one. I was also one of those women who got pregnant later in her life and I was done with partying and having fun, all I wanted was to have a baby. I never feel like I am missing out because I like to be with my daughters, and not to try to get away from them.
