Can one person make the world better?

Can one individual make the world a better place? How?  Can you give examples opf people who have done it?

Yes! Definitely, yes! If one person didn't speak or act, and inspire another person, then the example of those two people inspired more, nothing would be accomplished. If one person's small example inspires enough people, the scales eventually tip, and others come along just because most of us have changed. That's called the tipping point, and it's not reached unless one person begins the change.

Oh, YES! Pilgrims of peace such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Charlie Chaplin, John Lennon, Lincoln, Mother Teresa - these and more showed us that each of us counts.

John F Kennedy took Lincoln's legal works and created a new society where segregated buses, etc... no longer are acceptable social norms.

We send our children and our grandchildren overseas to fight for freedom, we celebrate the real royalty of the United States - our veterans and yet each of us has a voice and can be a vehicle for unity and peace.

The pilgrims of peace throughout the world, throughout the ages, have all been persecuted - you will not be unscathed. The world will fight back but don't let go of what is true, what is right, what is just.

One voice counts. One life, one day can make a world of difference. It is up to all of us in any manner possible to always speak kindness, always seek understanding, always fight for equality.

Yes, Jesus Christ would be the prime example, wholly man and wholly God. In addition to Christ there have been many notable figures throughout history - what about Thomas Edison who invented the lightbulb, or the Wright Brothers who invented flight? What about some of the great artists and musicians who have touched the world through their work, such as Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky? How about great scientists and inventors such as Madame Curie and Alexander Graham Bell? How about the great preachers such as Billy Graham, S.D. Lockridge, Billy Sunday and Charles Spurgeon? How about Florence Nightengale?

I absolutely think one person can make the world a better place. Humans are social beings and we are each connected to so many others. You don't need to be a famous figurehead to initiate change in the world. All it takes is one good deed to another and then the potential for the effects of that good deed to spread like a ripple is infinite. In theory one person can put their finger in the pool and spread ripples out that make the world a better place.

This is going to sound flippant to many, but there are those particular individuals who can make the world a better place by dying -- by ceasing to exist.

Adolf Hitler? Benito Mussolini? Jeffry Dahmer? Ted Bundy? Osama bin Laden?

No, it doesn't sound flippant. But ask yourself this - how different might those people have been if they had had good, loving models around them as children? Might have made all the difference to their lives and the lives of so many they hurt.

I think so.  It's in the little kindnesses that people do for each other day in and day out.  Holding the door for the person behind you, smiling at a stranger, or picking up a piece of litter outside for some small examples.  There are also bigger ways to make the world better.  My husband and some of his family have, and still, work in the public service sector as firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, Police Officers.. all of these jobs help people and in some ways, help the make the world a better place.  I extend great gratitude to those men and women who work in these fields and in many others, and who help make our world a little better everyday. smile
