We all live in a world where the bad things seem to be more big news than the good things.
As a collective, what do you think humans could do to realistically make the attitudes & the actions of people change for the better? Understanding that the world will never be perfect.

If everyone followed one simple rule, all the problems in the world would be solved.

"Do as you would be done by"

It's a seems pity that there are so many people who feel that its ok to do unto others before they do unto you.  Its like people think its all good to get what they can get out of life no matter who they have trample on to get it.

I don't know if this rule really works, Marisa. As an extravert, if I did as I would be done by to my introverted husband, we would probably be divorced by now.

When he is upset, I LEAVE HIM ALONE and don't pester him with questions.

When I am upset, I want someone to talk to about it.

I think a more evolved version would be "do unto others as they would like to be done to", which requires *gasp* communication ....

Which would be my answer as to what it would take - it would take communication.

Many, many human beings are actually incapable of listening and understanding a view they do not personally hold. I would go so far as to say "most" are incapable, actually.

Communication - not the kind that gets others to agree with you, the kind that gets you to agree with others.

I find that I can completely agree with Christians and completely agree with atheists at the same time, when I really listen.

I don't think it is possible "as a collective". But perfectly achievable as an individual smile

Do you think that globilization or having a one world government is a good idea? and why / not?

sandra rinckposted 16 years agoin reply to this

No way, not ever will that be a good idea.  Too much power to one man or organization is way worse the corrupt governments.

Uh excuse me but don't we already have the problem (Too much power to one man) ???

Let's not be afraid to say that yeah, you UN has a lot of issues.  But if embrace the idea behind it             we could be standing on the shoulders of giants.  We just need the smartest, most neutral thinkers / delegate speakers from EVERY orientation represented.   So we can begin to end this entire us / them BS that currently exists, cause if we don't we're done for.

Ahem, done for either way though I suspect.

    Empathy.

This is the only thing that will truly make the world a better place.
But how do you create empathy in people?
Solve that puzzle and you will solve all the world's problems. smile

unfortunatly I think that it would take something dramatic to shake the foundations for people who thrive on the indulgence of society's "understanding" in order to appreciate what they have or what can be achieved.

Something dramatic always does happens, it's lifes pattern of events.  The reason this time seems particulary special is because it's been talked about for the last 2-5000 years.

I believe the one thing that all people could do that would make THE difference would be for each to seek their  highest level of awareness consciousness. Some would call that God, others might say Buddhic Consciousness, Infinite Intelligence, Higher Self, Christ Mind, etc... That "place" where we are all connected at the highest level of heart understanding, the Great Antakarana of Life.

I believe that Sparkling Jewel has the right track.  Studies have shown that daily meditation does change society as a whole, and measureably changes the person meditating.

I don't think there is such a thing as a better place.  I have never wittnessed any sort of peace.  Maybe if I had a lot of money I could take my poor a*s to some resort and feel peace, but unfortunatly I can't.

P.S... No Misha I don't have rich people. LOL.

    Mishaposted 16 years ago

LOL My Goddess, It does not have anything to do with you having rich people big_smile (I know it's a typo tongue)

It has to do with whether you believe your God is perfect and almighty or not. wink

And I like what topstuff is saying, especially if he means that. I'm trying to get there, too - but I still have a way to go...

  12. Misha profile image65
    Mishaposted 16 years ago

Sure, it is just basic exercise in logic smile

Your God is perfect and almighty.
Because of that all what he creates has to perfectly serve its purpose, and thus be perfect itself - including Earth.

I don't know what the purpose of this World is, but if I assume it was created by the perfect and almighty God, this World cannot be anything but perfect...

    1. profile image0
sandra rinckposted 16 years agoin reply to this

I don't know, see I believe that God is almighty and the master creator of the Universe and such, but I don't believe that it is God's fault for an imperfect world.  wink

I mean perfect in the sense that any missing element or whateva...we wouldn't be here to begin with.

  13. Misha profile image65
    Mishaposted 16 years ago

Who told you the World is imperfect in God's eyes? We as humans deem it imperfect on our own account, but we have very limited understanding of World's purpose (if any understanding at all), so our judgment is flawed to begin with... Only God knows the purpose, and the World perfectly fits the purpose it was created for. It is perfect.

Of course assuming it was created wink

LOL I wished Jenny would write this - but hey, I can do something myself, too smile

Did you take a huge shot of enlightenment this morning? LOL.  You more seem more intellectual than usual.  I like it!  smile  Or maybe that stay in jail last weekend did something. Hhahaha, just kiddin low blow.

LOL As much as I hoped this jail time would do something to my worldview, it was an absolute failure in that sense big_smile

And actually I am very intellectual (if I correctly understand the word LOL). I guess I'm just going through the final stages of complete re-shaping of my worldview, and it is starting to take some definite forms in front of your eyes right now smile And not without your help wink

I think we need to start taking responsibility - as individuals. No one seems to take responsibility anymore. Kid killed his classmates? Blame it on the media, on bullies, on drugs.

No one is taking responsibility and it's irking me. Watch the news tonight and see some story about someone who did something bad and his or her whole family will place blame elsewhere.

How about people just not raising their kids right? I'm about to fork over $15,000 a year JUST so my kid won't have to go to public school anymore. It's THAT bad. His school (ranked well here) has teachers onboard specifically available to handle the "angry kids," those who throw desks at teachers, those who write profanities all over the desks.

    Who is raising these kids?

We're not raising people who will make the world better (well a few of us are). Our kids are being left to not have to answer for their own actions and it's irking me.

    LOL...off rant now. Sorry...whew!

Australia had a 20 /20 Summit over the weekend and one of the Ideas put up was cut all State Governments out... Advoid duplicate handling.
Has Misha said I dio not think i will ever live toi see it.
