   Is it ok for kids - 13 years old or below to have Facebook account?
   
   There are reports that Facebook will allow kids to have their own account since in reality, they are on the social network already. It has been found out that a substantial number of them are already a member of the famous social network. Facebook is now doing research and is exploring the possibility of letting them have their own account with parental supervision? Do you think this is a good idea?

   Kids under 13 need real life interaction with their friends, they don't need extra screen time.

      I think that at ages 13 and below they still like to play outside the house than confine themselves with virtual interaction.

   I think so if Facebook goes through with the parental supervision until a certain age (15, maybe? 16?). Kids like to stay in touch with their friends just like anyone else, you know. Especially tween girls, lol.

      I agree, as long as they are being connected to the parents account I think its ok. Isn't that extra work for parents to monitor them?

   I'm sure a lot of them already have one but no it's not a good idea. They really don't need to grow accustomed to the virtual life that everyone else is addicted too. They'll spend more time online with friends than they will with homework and studying.

   No, I don't think it is a good idea. Children tend to be full of information that strangers can use against you. Even if Facebook promises parental supervision, children can still make an account by lying about their age (something that I did during the Friendster era).
   
   If they want to keep in touch with their friends, they can do so the old fashioned way - via the telephone.

   I think that it might be OK for them to have an account for certain things, but only if Facebook can do a good job of determining whether or not they are of age. I could see young teens getting into trouble meeting people on Facebook. I had an AIM account, but that was just messaging.
