      accorcing to the bible it is the mark of the beast (Satan).
          I dont like to see the number.  I knew someone who had a phone number that ended this way, even the clerk asked him if he minded, he shrugged and she said many people would refuse that number.

   I don't think a number can be evil. I mean, I worte a hub about 69 and that isn't too far off.
   
   There is even a song on Guitar Hero called 666, I really don't think its evil.

   I do not attach any superstitious significance to a number. I am unaware of any Bible that has only 665 pages or fewer. Ecclesiastes 3 is on page 666 of my favorite Bible.
   
   The 666 in the Book of Revelation has been consistently interpreted to stand for a person or for superlative imperfection. There is nothing particularly evil about the number in and of itself.

   The number 666 has never bothered me, but it did greatly amuse me once.  I was living in San Diego at the time, circa 1985, and just a couple of blocks up the street (toward the "main drag") from my apartment, two streets angled together in such a way as to make a rather triangular lot at the apex.
   
   On that lot, the address was, yup, "666".  The lone building at that address was, yup, a fundamentalist Christian church. 
   
   There's no punch line; that's pretty  much the entire (entirely true) story.

   Didnt someone suggest a few years ago that the actually number of the beast was 616?

   " 616 ("six hundred and sixteen", or "six hundred sixteen" in American English) is believed by some Christians to have been the original Number of the Beast in the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. Different early versions of the Book of Revelation gave different numbers, and 666 had been widely accepted as the original number. In 2005, however, a fragment of papyrus 115 was revealed, containing the earliest known version of that part of the Book of Revelation discussing the Number of the Beast. It gave the number as 616, suggesting that this may have been the original."
   
   So does that mess all the Devil Worshipers up?
   Have they been dialing the wrong number all these years?
   Maybe THAT'S why they haven't been able to take over the world yet.
   It would be like calling 411 instead of 911.

   what a speculation, for a number such as 666, to be given any sort of power, just like in any thought, that if you believe something to be so, it will be. If you are to believe that the number 666 is an evil number, so this would make it so.
   
   I myself see it as a number, something that can be added, subtracted and calculated. For all speculation it is a number.

    A number is a number.  However, since there is essentially a stigma around the number, it can be used as a symbol for evil in things like books, movies, and video games.  But, if you believe that page 666 in a book is truly evil only because it's page 666, then that's rather silly.  It's an arbitrary number, and it cannot hold any power over you that you don't personally give to it.
    
    I do like making jokes about it, though.  "Ooooh... you have 666 posts!  You're evil!  Just don't make another post so you can stay that way..."
